I suspect the performance bottleneck on small aircooled engines is the cooling, as I've seen faster variants of a bike that mostly just added an oil cooling loop, so now it can rev higher or accept a larger throttle input without burning up.

A turbo on a single cylinder engine, with a carburetor that is placed before the turbo, and not using the waste gate and no blow-off valve? I am surprised it ran at all, and not surprised at all that you blew the engine.
