Yep I’m never going to a race 😅😅
It Was 120 Injuries (Not 180)
Also, 83 Spectators Were Killed And 1 Driver Was Killed
What changes came afer this
What the fuck!
GOD BLESS EVERYONE THAT WAS THERE & THE FAMILY'S THAT SUFFERED BC OF THAT DAY.🙏🏼
I was a young girl at a tri county speedway raceway, and a car tumbled up and unto a spectator fence, onto a speaker, flipped back the speaker into the crowd and killed one, injured many. What a spectator didn't expect that day was to die, watching a race. 😢😮
Would've never thought i could actually experience what driving a countach feels like. This is amazing.
😮
I believe the runner up for worst racing incident is Von Trips at Monza, anybody?
After that Mercedes refused to take part in any form of car racing for over 30 years. It was that scary.
Drum brakes don't save weight
That was a real life final destination
Why did he say the Le Mans race in France.. like no shit it’s in France
It was an Austin Healey the Mercedes colided with before crashing
It was an Austin Healey that avoided the Jag and the Merc used it as a ramp. Also, parts of the car went through the crowd, not the entire car. Still a very deadly accident.
There's a beautiful animated short film about this on YouTube. Worth a watch.
I believe this was also the beginning of the use of magnesium in cars to save weight. So when water was applied to the fire in the crowd it just accelerated…
All because some idiot hitting the brakes hard. Same shit on our freeways everyday
The cars, braked suddenly.
I heard that it was made of magnesium and flames chunks of car were flying across the stands
This is a pretty tame retelling. From some accounts, an axle came off the Mercedes and was cleaving heads. It is an absolutely horrific tale, and is pretty much the reason why safety in motorsport is taken so seriously.
The only time in history that Mercedes evoked strong emotions
REAL RACING! EVERYONE WAS RISKING IT ALL!
Drum brakes save weight over discs? WTF YOU TALKING ABOUT
Imagine being in the car and just watching all those people get flat lined I imagine it to be like that one part of invincible where omni-man holds Marc face first into a train full of people.
not just Mercedes used brakes for saving weight, it was mostly because English invented disc brakes, and Germans didn't wanted to use a British invention on their car out of pride after the war.
Reason why Mercedes quit LeMans and hasn’t returned to this day
They banned racing in france after this for a long time.
I think the hood alone decapitated 14 people!
by far the worst crash ever in racing. This accident also changed the face of racing forever.
The worst crash ever..
