30 thoughts on “Here’s how we broke the 48 state record!

  1. Excellent story! I recognize and truly honor the incredibly important contribution of this team and what they were able to accomplish. To me, everything every pioneer in this arena has done has been incredibly important to me. I’ve learned about at least one incredibly important innovation from every single record effort (successful or not) described in a VinWiki story. Having said that, imagine what a more professional effort backed by far more planning, money, leg work, and more flexibility connected to the departure date and timing could accomplish. For instance, even merely driving the expected/planned route/course at least once or twice in advance of the record run would no doubt improve the record time dramatically and help the team determine optimal routes (and to learn things like whether any bridges are out or whether any unexpected road work will be encountered). In my view, based on everything reasonably available to a well-funded driving team in 2025, the real record could realistically almost cut an 86 hour record in half. And, I do not make that statement lightly. Unfortunately, I’m not at liberty to describe the many ways in which hours can be shaved off of a maybe, what, over 6,500 mile overall trip, but it’s no secret that one record cannonball team effectively utilized a team member who served as the team’s weather guide. In or after 2025, I wouldn’t expect any record run to last very long (relatively speaking in terms of years) before being broken which did not wholly take place by a vehicle running solely on dry ground or at least solely on roads that were sufficiently dry to allow virtually zero reduction in speed.

  2. I’m from Vermont and stumbled across this video and literally live 5 mins from white river junction where your started. But side note, wicked awesome bbq ISNT ICONIC and it’s not very good. Lol

  3. I'm honestly confused why such a smart guy would have even attempted going through Atlanta during rush hour?
I guess he just didn't know how bad it can get.
Literally 100miles out of your way is quicker.

  4. I once did 111 miles in 1hr 3mins. I did stop for fuel for like 2-4 mins. Was Sunday morning, great weather, motorway only……I didn’t feel like I dropped below 130mph whole journey…..all in a stock 98 spec JDM Integra Type R……hit the rev limiter in fifth twice at 151 mph on the GPS, 160 on the speedo. Anyone keeping up that kind of pace with normal roads and traffic included for 1000’s of miles deserves so much more respect that most could imagine.

  5. If you had a 1.9 Liter TDI with a custom tank, you'd never have to stop for gas! That engine is the most reliable you can buy.
But I know Americans don't like Diesel and don't even know that engine exists. 😉
