39 thoughts on “How Scamming Consumers Became Normalised

  1. Planned obsolescence and unrepairable product should be included in this video. It becomes so annoying and drives more waste and push customer pocket to the limit to purchasing new product regularly. So many necessary and primary products for human life following those steps right now. How far they gonna push us?

  2. Bro y'all couldn't come up with any better thumbnail😂😂😂 literally anything would be better than a Photoshop. Just off the top of my head showing an open bag of potato chips a real bag that hasn't been eaten they come with like 25 chips now

  3. I noticed these changes the last few years on chips and snacks, now I just stopped buying them and feel healthier and probably won't ever go back even if they change back.

  4. We encountered this with a horsey sauce recently.

"new bottle shape! same sauce!" plastered all over the front hid that it was actually slightly smaller for content. like 20% smaller.

no mention of that on the "rebranded!" marketing

    and same price, because: ofc

  5. I have a grocery checklist on my iPhone (notes app).
I check my fridge and pantry and untick items I need to buy on my weekly Saturday morning shopping.
I also have the Coles app with a list of my commonly bought items.
I check to see which items are on sale then untick them on my iPhone list even if I have enough to last week or two.
I buy those items in bulk, usually to last through the 2 or 4 week “price reduction” cycle.
I tick off the items I buy from my iPhone list as I shop. This helps keep my average shopping costs down while minimising my chance of wandering around the isles buying things I don’t need or already have a good stock at home.
    Try it.
    Make and use those lists.
You’ll see the savings results very fast!

  6. This is why in Europe, it's mandatory to have the price/kg or price/roll or unit displayed in the grocery store along the buying price.
Because ultimately that's only thing that matters.

If we could get shops to publicize data on that price and then we could plot that against time, we'd see immediately if producers try to pull this on us and we could do something about it…

  7. Every time I hear about nestle I know it's gonna make my blood boil.

I take every step I can to avoid buying anything from nestle for years now.

  8. People are noticing the greed-flation problem, but feeling powerless, because we can't suddenly stop buying everything we need. Most of the world's food is controlled by a small group of people. We really need the help of Consumer Groups. 😢

  9. I live in Canada and the price of everything is insane, especially food.

It should be the law everywhere to display, prominently, the unit costs of everything in stores, so that consumers have an easy way to track prices.

  10. Food prices are so high that's it's not a matter of wanting to pay for an item or not.

No for many it's a matter of can't pay the sky-high food prices. Along with paying for rent / mortgage, vehicle, insurance etc etc.

Prices are up across the board. Corporate Greed is way out of control in all sectors, not just food.

  11. 3:40 – The worst example of this is, for at least 3 holiday seasons now, NABISCO has been getting away with putting ONE BITE OF FOOD (1 OREO) PER PACK & putting 15ish 'packs' in an oversized bag with winter decor, charging $10 per bag, for HALF the amount of oreos you can get in a normal Family size pack for $5!! I'm shocked it hasn't become a viral outrage, every time I see it… 🤯😵‍💫
