Leopold Aschenbrenner was hailed as a man who could see the future clearer than anyone else. He managed to build a $45 billion empire on AI investments alone, but when the market turned he suffered a catastrophic loss. While he quickly got back on his feet and began trading again, do these events give us any insights into the AI frenzy in the current financial markets?

24 thoughts on “How to lose $35 Billion Dollars Betting on AI”

  1. The share value on all new tech products is overvalued and loses a ton of peak share value in the first couple years….something new comes out and hype blows up and share prices become overvalued then the share price is corrected by the market and everyone calls it a “crash”. Everyone thinks they are clever but the same pattern plays out over and over and they expect the next time it will be different. But Is losing speculated share value based off expected future profits and earnings really losing money? There was nothing like purchase orders or contracts those future gains were being based off of, just hype. Their stock was way overvalued to start with and literally Anyone could use the same logic to start a business with $1k and say they will make $10 million next year and then when the business doesn’t hit those numbers the owner can say “I lost $10 million” and then use it as a tax offset or whatever…..but no mutherfukr you only lost $1k and pulled that $10 million number in expected future profits out of thin air based on nothing but optimism

  2. I was listening and multitasking making coffee so I didn't see that you'd put your face in the video til I saw comments mention it. I already knew you weren't AI but it's always nice to see what people look like. 😊

  3. There are too many stupid investors with more money than brains. Meanwhile these people are getting tax breaks while the very economic foundation they're sitting on top of is crumbling due to neglect and staggeringly shortsighted greed.

We're at the point where 90% of US GDP growth is just due to AI datacenter investment. Massive investment with little to no plan for how it will even generate revenue. That should be setting off alarm bells, not further investment. Plus Trump is pushing AI now, and if that's not a red flag on fire with emergency lights and sirens going off, I have no idea what is.

  4. Easy come, easy go. I have zero sympathy for guys like this. Yeah bro, I read Kurzweil when I was younger and there was an embarrassing period when I thought the singularity was coming, blah blah blah. It's never going to work out the way you're predicting, especially when you're 24 and have delusions of grandeur. You're better off trying to become a pop star.

  5. Fun fact about the German name: The surname Aschenbrenner is an old occupational name for someone who burned wood to produce ash and from that potash (potassium carbonate). In German "Asche" is also slang for money. Ashburner .. exactly my kind of humor 😅
