The really annoying thing is that I think you could create a low performance phone for £20 that somewhat simulates the modern smartphone experience, and things like this make it harder to do. £5 CPU and £5 RAM sounds like a joke, but Moores law is very powerful, and modern OS are quite bloated compared to the bare minimum you'd need to seem modern smart-phone like. Two buffers of screen space at 1k resolution takes just 4MB, have no GPU, one of those buffers is the screen-space, and have an action to swap buffers. Have no app backgrounding, and the OS do nothing in the background except check for phone calls once a second before giving 100% processor priority back to the app. 2000 to 2010 had some flashy 2D and 3D games that you could render in software rather than hardware, and still look good. etc…
