I'm from Oklahoma, yes yes I know, my family would take us to Branson and Silver Dollar City every summer for our summer break. This video was cathartic
kevin my beloved welcome back!!!!
So as much as I hate to say it, where can I find the defunct Tarzan walkthrough exhibit from Disneyland.
"branson, missouri?" where have i heard that name.
"old people" waaaait a second
*suddenly shoji tabuchi signing autographs* YEEEEEEAAAAH
I know I should be good and wait till the end of the video to comment… but, Bald Knobbers?
As someone who felt like they practically grew up in this park and has always wanted to write a novel about the idea of a night theme park, this video made me realize that the only two real options for it were for it to remain as a nostalgic memory or for it to abandon its nighttime concept in order to stay open. Realizing that the thing that made it so special to me might have been the thing that made it close…kinda makes me think it's for the best that it did, in a weird way.
Unexpected Shoji Tabuchi
I went here many times. It’s nice to see it again, even in decay.
Oh my god, a Defunctland about a place I've actually been to? this video is a dream come true!!
AAAA i went to silver dollar city all the time as a kid in the 2000s this is so cool, but i dont think i literally ever heard of celebration city lol. My family would always drive up from NWA so maybe that was why but i genuinely had no idea celebration city existed
I spent 6 months living in an up-and-coming motel next to a go-cart track around the corner. I always wondered about that fenced off area whenever I'd drive to the gas station to grab beers, then steak and shake for a cheap dinner. Never thought an abandoned amusement park could be right there in the trees.
I also love how Chappelle Roan is from an hour away from this area. I'm no music expert, but Pink Pony Club might be trying to say something.
I WANT to make a comment about how well researched this video is and the extensive use of archival footage and sources…. BUT on the other hand I can't get over how much he absolutely ROASTS the main clientele for being old af.
36:59 rare mention of Colorado in a Defunctland video
"including the Zyklon coaster" wait what
guys shhhhhhhh MY SHOWS ON
22:54
My one ride on The Orbiter is the only time I've thought I was gonna die at an amusement park.
Not in a fun "Woo!" kinda way, more of a "If I lose my grip on this bar I'm gonna fly out of this seat" way
It was my dream to be in the goo crew. Frick.
"I've just been thrown out of an unauthorized chapter of the Goo Crew… I'll try to pick up the pieces and move on… I mean there must be a support group for people like me".
God now I need to rewatch Will Wood's "Slouching Towards Branson"
Unexpected veggietales!!
The Ozarks are remarkably beautiful… it’s a shame the people that live there are so crazy
You’re back
Just a PHENOMENAL video, as usual. To see Defunctland cover my childhood amusement park was something I never expected, but the care and research was spot on, giving SDC and Branson as a whole the respect it deserves.
I think one reason why Branson can only have one park as you put it is because the theming of SDC is SO exhaustive. It encompasses so much of Branson and the surrounding culture that simply going there gets you a complete taste of the region. Adding something that celebrates mid-century America doesn’t work because it’s inherently at odds with why Branson and SDC remain so unique to begin with – you’re there for the experience of the OZARKS, not events 50-60 years in the past, not Route 66, no matter how close it is. Even if they did want to highlight those things, they just didn’t put in the same level of effort as with SDC. It’s a middling idea to begin with, so you’re almost required to go above and beyond to get it off the ground. Going even slightly beneath that, as they did, ends up how it ended up. SDC just does too much right too often for the need for another park to exist.
as a Missouri native, its always interesting to know the things I missed out on here. great video as always
not the church still holding mass after it closes lmfao
Ah, so this is why The Shoji Tabuchi Show was based in Branson, Missouri! RIP a legend.
This park was my childhood, thanks for covering it!
We get it! You don't like old people!
"literal Christian heaven" 💀
1:35 "Branson's Boom" lol
Silver Dollar City was my childhood theme park. So happy for the nostalgia <3
40:01 yknow, i never thought about what a roller coaster demolition would look like, but idk why i thought it would have been more dramatic than this
