42 thoughts on “The priceless car I wish we NEVER found!

  1. Thank you for saving lee1! it’s still the car it’s still got its original dna! Haters will hate! Would they have preferred it the way you found it? Turning itself back to mother nature! Truly a miracle it’s back on the road. An icon of my childhood! THANK YOU ☺️

  2. I’m in the railroad preservation community here in America. If you restore an item, and it has some new technology on it to make it better, the backlash you receive is absolutely ungodly, even if they don’t know the technology is new. An example is an air-conditioning unit. Yes, you are reading that right an air-conditioning unit. Heaven forbid you restore the entire passenger car to original condition, but decided to upgrade the air conditioning to make it more comfortable for your passengers. I feel your pain, Travis. I have learned to tell people over the years that they can complain about something when it is there something. Until then, shut up. Thank you for sharing the Story, Travis.

  3. It's a disgrace to remove a piece of history just because some snowflakes could get their feelings hurt… and if we are real, none of those people would ever watch anything that has to do with an ICE.

  4. Good job, Travis. My father and I attended the jump at soldier field. We also came back and stayed at the Holiday Inn and saw the unveiling of Lee 1. My father has now passed. You helped create memories for me thar will last a lifetime. Thanks . I can even pick out my dad and I in the pics in the video you made about the jump. My father and I watched the Dukes when I was little . It is nice to remember the two times we came to Covington to your events. We even met John the night before the unveiling of Lee 01, we also heard the story of what happened to it in the trailer on the way down. I told my Dad that the car smelled of fresh paint when John came sliding in to the square. We wondered why your trailer with the car left the motel the night before , then we heard you telling the story. I really appreciate how hard you worked to put both events together. You gave me something priceless. Just wanted you to know you affected things and made memories you will never know about. THANK YOU.

  5. To everyone who says removing that flag or protesting it is "woke," I would encourage you to read the primary sources of the southern states when they succeeded, absolutely disgusting racist filth. I made similar comments a few years ago on John Schneider's YouTube page and they were deleted. I challenged Schneider to read those documents on his channel, of course he never took me up on it. Its like Tom Petty said a few years before his death, its so clear why people are upset by that flag. Germany doesn't fly Swastikas anymore for example. Again, go back and read those documents from the southern states, just horrible.

  6. As someone is who is more of a car person, and less of a Dukes of Hazzard person, this is all about that Lee 1 is essentially a rebody? That in reality, only makes it Lee 1 in pieces. It's not really THE car on the show. It's a tribute all emotional arguments aside.

  7. The general Lee needs to stay as is, removing the confederate battle flag off of that car , would cheapen it, I think, I mean just to make others happy, because it offends some others, because of their miss leading thoughts, only to put a 1 time speed way sticker, that don't make any sense to me , I mean the confederate battle flag means something totally different that a swastika, it mean southern prides, not racism , and the dukes of Hazzard is a classic show that most Americans grew up with as well as the ecto 1 ghostbusters caddy, or the batmobil, we all grew up with tv shows , I'd say the flag stays and nothing should change about that car, not so much as a 5/8 bolt,

  8. Thank you for restoring general lee it brings back memories when I was growing up I’m proud of the job y’all done on it to me it’s a piece of drivable art thank you for saving from rusting away

  9. My 2 cents.

If Lee1 was a mangled wreck, still the orange with the decals, I could totally get behind just locking it up in a glass capsule and towing it to events. It IS the General Lee.

Green Lee1, you can speculate, but I personally think it's no longer the General at that point. Superman dressed at Clarke Kent.. it is but it isn't.

This generation, the older few know General Lee for what it was.
Future generations? If they went to a car show, and saw a picture or videos of this orange tank just flying, and then gazed at this green mangled metal.. how many would actually believe it.. THAT maybe was, but now it sure as hell isn't.

Lee1 restored back into General Lee, now it's back, it's there, it exists, it DRIVES.

The glory of the restoration will long outlast those who think it was blasphemy – we just likely won't see the countless of other generations that get to enjoy it – and likely wouldn't winge about it not looking anything like the car that it should be.

  10. This man found the OG General Lee in a field, then proceeded to socially engineer, manipulate and scam the owners over the course of a year to sell it to him for 400 bucks, then immediately flipped it for a profit. Some "fan"….

  11. I remember reading about finding this car and restoring it in a car and driver magazine. And this predated the internet or at least the convenience of the internet by quite a long time and people clambered for that magazine.

  12. Everyone who complained about the general Lee was pretend mad. Nobody was really mad. It was about political submission. It was about conforming everybody to only one sided group think. No individual thought was allowed to exist in any way whatsoever. Even if what you’re doing, had innocent intentions. You are still demonstratively evil for not conforming.

  13. This is my opinion i think the car should have been kept as found and put in a dukes of hazzard museum its only original and screen used condition some things should be left alone in the historical condition they were last left!!!

  14. I’m a huge fan of the Dukes of Hazzard and have been since I was a little kid. In my opinion, I know what it took for you to purchase that car and I know the condition it was in when you found it, I believe you rescued that car and have saved it for generations to come! I have watched your story over and over several times and still enjoy it to this day. I also believe that despite how Anyone feels about the confederate flag, it belongs on the Very first General Lee no matter what!

  15. Nobody (except a racist history freak with £££Bank to buy this car) would flaunt the flag. There are real horrible parts of history that still can be viewed, now I dont know how they chose the car and painy/decals – in the UK it would just be a TV car and like some of our comedy – we'd say sorry – we did not desihn to offend.

  16. I absolutely Command, and thank you for saving the General Lee #1!!!
Looks like you did a fantastic job!!!
The people who put you down for doing it, are absolutely idiots!!!
Those of us who truly loved the show, and the car, Applaud you for restoring it!!!
    Thank you!!!

  17. Can anyone else tell he seems to support the confederate flag and doesn’t care what it stands for cuz he likes a childhood tv show? Imagine being like “I hate nazis but i liked hogans hero’s so I got a nazzi tattoo” bro this is so sad

  18. As a fat old white man it’s sad that you say “it is what it is” it’s a symbol of hatred and racism and it has no place outside a museum. You’re a sad one… wife’s probably just as miserably physically and emotionally. Enjoy that free speech my guy just like you clearly enjoy endless breadsticks
