  1. 10:40 I really can't say enough praise for the way the EU handles road design and maintenance. It's so far above and beyond the US it's pretty incredible and a lot of the political non-starters for car people in the US are huge reasons why they are able to do it.

Charging taxes and registrations based on the weight and driving distance of the vehicle means that they get revenue exactly proportionate to the rate of wear on the roads. That means instead of needing a massive trillion dollar general road repair bill for roads 25 years past their service life they can just keep up with maintenance as it's needed without any need to pass new laws.

Having a higher gas tax means that they bring in loads of money for new infrastructure investments allowing for much more focus on standardization, traffic efficiency, and expanding transport networks much faster than in the US.

Directing city transit funding to public transit options means commuters, suburban, City visitors, and city residents don't need to own cars. These are the people in the US that mostly hate driving and see cars as a necessary nuisance in their lives already. Having people who resent driving and hate cars not forced to use them means that the people in the roads generally actually want to be there and follow lane rules, drive more alertly, and are more knowledgeable about their vehicles and the roads overall.

Having more stringent rules around getting a license (we're taking about most US performance driving schools not even meeting the intro driver's Ed requirements in the EU) means that the worst drivers on the road are better then the average driver in the US. That means far less people daudling in the left lane, far fewer random traffic jams from tailgating, and much better situational awareness overall.

So there are costs to this: owning a car can be more expensive, it's much harder to get your license, you need to be much more careful about where and when you do your crazy driving, and you'll need to be ready to embrace the idea of parking at a train station and riding into cities instead of driving into a town center and parking there.

Still, all the stuff you hear car people screaming about is there for a reason and it does greatly improve the experience of everyone: including road users.

  2. In good conscience, speeding on public roads is not acceptable.A car going over 100mph which crashes is certain to kill the occupants and other road users.
    Time to become an adult?

  3. I am quite surprised he didn't sue police for damage. I mean they took good working car, they returned basically barn find with moss and growing on it and rotten tyres and rubbers and all neglected. On S5 that could easily be £10,000 worth of damage… I am just not sure how it is okey to take car in one condition and return it in different condition. I know they didn't expect to return the car, but then equally they should have stored it decently whilst the case is being tried. And even if the case went their way, then it is disservice to tax payers as well. Cars like this are being auctioned, so in this case it would have been auctioned for scrap considering it's horrible condition… and that is the difference between tax payer getting maybe £15,000 and maybe £5,000, how is that acceptable work of Police?! Even then this is absolute bottom of the barrel worst S5 in UK, better cars cost more.

  4. In europe the highways are so well designed, the curves, banking all done so well that as little accidents happen as possible not as much in the states

  5. Number Plates – Le Jog is a popular charity event in the U.K. it’s from Lands End to John o Groats. The furthest two points from each other (with roads) in the U.K. it’s about 860 miles. Ish. 9:36 is how long it took someone in a silver Audi once. Hence JOG LE 936

  6. I have to ask about those strange yellow Irish plates, they say Tiobraid Arann/Tipperary, but the two letter county code it LE and JOG where the year of the car number is.

  7. He didn't mention it, but i bet the barrel run down the Cajon Pass on the 15 was fun… Truckers on there giving him a run for his money i bet too!!

  8. The way he talks about UK Cops is clearly based off his own personal experiences. I've never had issues with them. Got pulled over for launching from a set of lights up to 85 in a 40. Pulled over, turned the car off, sunk my face and let him know he was absolutely right and that I was being an idiot. He was telling me about how if he was to give me anything it would be a court summons, he was telling me about how I was dangerously undertaking (nobody was infront of me), but just go along with it, let them know they're right. Told him I'd never done it before (I do it everytime I'm at those lights). Got off with a verbal warning.

Plenty of clips online too of cops just being decent blokes even to those who are in pretty serious situations.
