50 thoughts on “Why Gen Z Graduates Are in Crisis

  1. A bad job market would be fine if houses were like 150k. But they are 500k now and are being bought up by private equity and corporations and top 1 percent for rentals. During tough times, housing prices are supposed to go way down to match median incomes in the area but that is not happening. The system is rigged. A lot of men have just given up to be honest.

  2. Companies in 2025: Lets not hire junior engineers we can get rid of them by using AI and overworking our Senior engineers.
Companies in 2035 : Dang why can't we find any senior engineers to build our products anymore.

  3. It's honestly depressing, i have given up on trying to find an internship entirely, every listing requires experience, even unpaid ones demand years of experience, i'm honestly considering abandoning my CS degree and getting a farm job

  4. 0:46 hold on, im 45 and 20 years ago it wasn’t easy peasy. Back then we also complained that employers demanded a 10 years of work experience for an entry job. Today with AI, I get it, it’s more complicated though.

  5. And yet electricians, plumbers and welders….they're doing just fine.
Change your expectations and stop thinking you're smarter than anyone else, and literally be wiling to get your hands dirty.

    Fucks sake
We dont need anymore people making "fabulous apps" for phones, we need people who can actually build and main our superstructure, not in the comfy office level but at the ground level.

  6. I stopped working all together. We live on my boyfriend's income. He makes the money, and I budget the money. We still save every month, invest, and have enough to get him a medical certificate.

  7. There's no need for those crippling student loans anymore. Technical hands-on skills are the safe bet I'd wager if i was finishing high school now.

  8. Eh at least I'm not alone in applying to over 70 jobs and getting ghosted by over 50 of those, my CV getting read by at best 20 and only 3 of those responding to me to decline my application.

  9. Just wanted to share my perspective on this as a gen Z. Feel free to discuss with me.
First of all, I 100% believe college is a scam. But the degree is not useless. If youre looking for skills in college classes, then youre wasting your time. You need to look for work experience while there, be it professor assistant, internship, or part time. Also, be aware of the 5 years rule, where you must work in an industry that wont disappear in 5 years, look around you. If youre lucky, you can work in a field that youre passionate in, but just because youre working, doesnt mean you must leave your passion behind. Also you need to learn to "spice" up your resume. Sometimes you just have to lie in your resume, especially linkedin.

So, what about the freshgrads? You need to open up to opportunities, get a wider perspective of your field, lets say youre a graduate in graphic design, meaning you are able to communicate with media. You then not only look at graphic design opportunities but maybe also work in tv crew, copywriter, or whatever. Get every work experience you can, build up your resume, and DO NOT BE LAZY. Why do i say this? 70% of my friends even my own siblings are not getting jobs because theyre lazy. Theyre on their phone all day and just lay in bed. You can change your live, work doesnt always mean stress, trust me, even if so, it is FAR WORSE not to have one. I always say to my friends, climbing a tall mountain tomorrow might feel impossible, but if you take one step at a time, eventually you WILL get there.

This comes from someone who got to the wrong college degree, no connections, and could only dreamt of being a programmer. Now I work at a mining automation company as a programmer. I do am still learning, my next goal is to make my own game studio.

  10. Oh your skillset is getting devalued. Now that's how all the people making your coffee, food and running essential services for your convenience are feeling. 🙂 for decades society was ok with paying essentials bare minimum while many of you make it big. Now you might just be on the path to join the people you didn't care about to begin with. So sad.

  11. I would like to see this actually seperated by sector. I work in healthcare and we cannot get more people if we tried. As a physician, my salary has gone up by about 30% in the past 2 years because we cannot get more people, so Im worth more a lot more than before. I get a new job offer every week without reaching out to anyone. We literally cant get enough nurses, sonographers, MR techs, etc. If you want job certainty move to essentials (like electrician etc) or healthcare.

  12. I hadn't thought about robots anymore with all this AI nightmare, but having a well constructed robots + AI, for sure they're stealing more of our jobs in the near future.

  13. If people become entrepreneurs or business owners… who’s going to buy or pay for those products or services if nobody has money to spend? It’s the capitalist collapse incredibly predicted by Marx… the capitalism has to go to extreme in order for Marxism to arise… paradoxically universal minimum income… in reality I can’t believe a prediction from social “science” becoming reality with such precision…

  14. I am a biologist, (3rd top university in Colombia) with 2 MSc degrees (one from the top university in Colombia and a good US university) and a PhD (top university in Colombia , (I graduated on September 2024)… I have 15 years of experience as researcher , university professor and data scientist Analist… after 2 years looking I found one job… it will last until December 2025

  15. Hang in there. Soon Robotic-AI will do everything from tending cows to feeding your babies. Everything become extremely abundant and affordable, humans do not need to work so much, maybe 10 hours a week but that woudl be more than enough for a decent living. Human will then focus on improving morality, spiritual practice and universe exploration.

  16. Blue collar jobs will follow suit as well. I already made a video about this which covers the topic but basically: once these models are integrated into robotics, manual jobs will be affected. It won’t be a clean sweep, but industries will evolve around the combination of AI + robotics since it will be more modular and predictable over time. 21:20

  17. I'm a nurse on a floor that has heavy telemetry monitoring that is partially monitored by AI. Seeing our system not alarm when a patient is clearly in Vtach is more than enough to tell me that AI is way too unreliable for how heavily used it now is.

  18. Remember this, the ones who buy the products produced by these billionaires are humans, not AI. Replacing humans with AI will reduce humans' purchasing power. If people can no longer buy products, no one will buy these billionaire products.

  19. I graduated and thought it was bad in 2014 in Chicago. I applied to hundreds of jobs. I got like 10 serious interviews but never made it. Finally landed a data entry job and then was let go lol. I ended up going to the trades (hvac) and got incredibly lucky with my jobs. Trades aren’t for everyone and can suck pending on the job. People glamorize it these days but there are a lot of negatives but you can mitigate them if you’re not an idiot with your heath.

  20. I get that it’s tough right now, and recent grads are definitely struggling. But saying it’s “never been this bad” kind of erases what millennials went through in 2008–2011. Back then unemployment for new graduates was around 8–10%, compared to roughly 5–6% today. It’s not to downplay the current challenges, but perspective matters: we’ve been here before.

  21. I think the problem I have with a lot of people reporting on generative AI is most people don't realize this has been around for years. Ever since you had predictive text that was a form of generative AI. This is not AI in its infancy this is AI being used is a way to boast of people's stock portfolio much like self-driving cars

  22. What if AI is just an overmarketed tool, design to merely lower people's expectations on jobs and salary? If the fear is spreaded quickly, more people will be happy to have a miserable job.

  23. You guys don't notice these free university countries struggle most. If everyone has a degree and industry knowledge why are they special? They're not. You created equality among non educated. 😊

  24. The mass adoption of AI has to be the most unsustanable thing humanity has ever come up with. Ai workers don't spend money, which means they don't buy products and services, which means that these companies are going to rely on people that are now unemployed to keep buying whatever the company is selling. It's doomed to fail.

  25. I can’t find credible sources for this “issue”. Unemployment rates are also commonly high for software roles since there’s high turnover in programming and tech roles.
