39 thoughts on “The Amazon Jungle Saved My Life: Encounters with STRANGE Creatures | Harry Turner

  1. You should look for Lynx pardinus o Lince Ibérico, from iberic peninsula in Spain and Portugal. There's a strong and succesful recovery program. It is an amazing species, very unique

  2. This is by far the best video to heal mind, body and spirit. I spent several years on the Navajo reservation as my wife is a tribal member. I was in a very remote area known as Shonto. After years of isolation my senses became so acute that even now after 4 years living in Flagstaff, AZ I still have trouble hearing sirens or loud car exhaust noise. We always look forward to trips into the largest Ponderosa Pine forest in the lower 48, in my back yard. Press forward…live, learn, pursue truth!

  3. at an hour 23, "we don't belong, we don't fit in, we're so different". I always think of the concept of the impact of a single species and the positive impact it can have, like with beavers and bringing back the waters, or re-introduction of wolves, all those examples. We too can have that positive impact, as many have shown examples of. Like the permaculture gurus of the world, those are the beavers. What sets us apart, is HOW RAPID we can cause change. For better or for worse. We're an apex species that's without question, but we HAVE to stop thinking we're the cancer. We don't have to be. We can be the cure and the catalyst for positive change. In single life times people have re-greened and re-forested deserts, literally. I'm just sick of the "we can't" narrative/ideaology. Even my immediate next door neighbors have it. Admit its a screwed up world, complain about it every single day, and just repeat the same "yea well, what can ya do, nothing we can do about it blah blah, we're just one person"…pathetic, lazy, and wrong. There's just far more doing harm than doing good. We need more good doers, do gooders, whatever lol. I'm starting to see it, more and more seeing how disconnected we've become from nature, farms, our food, etc. More and more interest in home gardening, animal husbandry, getting back to our roots. Seeing how money is woo woo fake un-controllable temporary garbage, taking on more lives of responsibility and "poverty" and ironically at the same time realizing how rich and wealthy you really become with natural assets, other forms of capital etc…

  4. I think most of the metal health issues people struggle with in modern times is because of the way we live. The rat race. The disconnect to meaning, this amazing planet, and all the biodiversity it offers. Nature and the other amazing life forms in it reminds of us of who/what we are, human. They allow us to connect to our reality on a level that you can’t deny the beauty and how amazing it all is.

  5. What a GREAT interview this is, hitting me on so many levels, especially as a story of hope! When, early on in the interview, Harry talked about peoples' perceptions of the Amazon jungle as a scary, dark place, it reminds me of my current job, lol. I'm a German-born white guy who grew up in a small Midwestern town. Somehow my life path took me to a maintenance and construction job working alongside Mexican migrants and immigrants in one of Albuquerque's most violent and gang-infested neighborhoods. Before I worked there, I'd been told so many times that "anglos" like me would be killed on sight just walking down the sidewalk in this particular part of town, But I've worked there for fourteen years and have always been treated well by both the residents and my workmates. I've had a few rough incidents here or there, but bad things can happen in even the nicest areas, from my experience. Harry's eventual awakening to the beauty of the jungle was similar to my understanding that fear can obscure the light that exists in even the darkest places. Kudos to Danny, also, for asking great questions and allowing Harry the space to tell his stories!

  6. Wow, this was one of the most heart-wrenching episodes. Thank you so much for sharing your story, Harry and Danny, for providing the space for such nuanced conversation.

  7. 56:03 This could not have been a more poorly timed moment to put an ad.
Absolutely loved this podcast & having already seen “Wild Cat”

    Thanks to both of you.

  8. Is it just me but it seems like he’s lying about how boot camp was and all this he’s done.

Just seems very far fetched especially when I have served 22 years just saying.
