40 thoughts on “China’s BYD is Catching up to Tesla

  1. Isnt BYD just the Chinese Government? Underneath all the layers. Backed on their money with incredibly favourable loan rates anyway. If there is one thing we should have learnt with meteoric rise's, is that there is more to the story or they are about to collapse. Either or. Its just a government funded business undercutting everyone & stealing their tech from reverse engineering. Sounds great for them. Sounds like unemployment in the west. BYD & China would eat selling cars at a loss to become esrablished in all the major markets. Its impressive only if we are comparing apples for apples. Other then that its anti-competitive.

  2. I have an air of optimism for BYD in Indonesia, due to various reasons:
    1. Prior to selling personal cars, BYD had a head start by selling taxis and low-deck electric buses. Their buses have good quality and equally good passenger ergonomics, on par with European low-deck buses that preceded it.
    2. Full works support. A few years ago, Tesla already penetrated Indonesian market, but it was small, only sold through one general importer. BYD is different because like other marques in Indonesia, they appoint a brand holder agent, directly under Chinese supervision.

  3. BYD didn’t “skip” North America market, they’re blocked. BYD outsells Tesla without North America market while Tesla has full Chinese market, this is what Washington calls “national security concern”, lol.

  4. They also park their cars in fields with license plates and plastic still covering the seats, just to pad the sales numbers.
I have also seen plenty about brand new EV's in China bursting into flames shortly after delivery, BYD included in those, but not among the worst.

  5. You didn't mention open standarts. Wintel x86 became world standart and almost destroyed apple due to open architecture. The same thing in CPR.
There are thousands battery replacement station througout the country. They were build so quickly because there are battery standards so every manufacture must do easy swappable battery in their car. This enabled huge market compared to us and eu where each manufacture lobby their standard so batteries aren't swappable beetween manufactures. So even tesla in us doesn't have wide battery swap stations network which promised musk about 10 years ago. Situation is just like pre usb era into mobilephones.

  6. All the video waiting for what really matters…. "How fast it is?"
    Everything else does not matter.
Tesla true sucess lie in how price per performance is… and let me tell you, IS A HELL OF A GOOD DEAL.

  7. As a German I'm usually rooting for the domestic car manufacturers, i have driven VW my whole life and my father has done so before me because the cars where great and affordable, after all Volkswagen means The People's Car but now the last 10 years prices have gotten ridiculous. If you want to be environmentally friendly and do your part in cutting carbon emissions and do the jump from combuster to EV you cant do so without making it a lifestyle decision. Its not like changing a tool that you use in your daily life its deciding to make this new car a take a huge bite out of your salary. On my 18th birthday my parents got me a used VW Golf IV (the 2nd latest generation at that time) with the most important safety features at the time for 3.5k € a new one would have been around 14-15k € now a new Golf is over 30k € and thats not even an EV. Thats a 100% price increase in 14 years for whats supposed to be the entry level car.
So long story short. Aside from wanting the German economy to stay strong (which cars are a big part of) i dont care anymore. A friend of mine works in a hospital as somebody who does surgery and leads a team and when he is in discord with me in the evening he tells me how he struggles to find a car for his family that is affordable and now he even considers Tesla which from all experiences that i heard break the moment the warranty ends.

  8. the guy who said toyota only sales 100k evs and is living under a rock doesn't know that electric is not the end goal but is a bridge towards hydrogen, such a dumb statement

  9. BYD has governmental backing to get into other nations and targeting mid class. It's not that much different from how Coca-Cola or Marlboro get their share of bucks. If you have trillion-dollar idea, your government is hungry for economical breakthrough and developing too fast for their own good, there it is.

  10. I don't like government funded companies especially when they are still funded after successful growth. It gives unfair competition over price, the new business trend is to create large scale volume and scalability which requires huge amount of funding. It destroys local business / factories. For China is all about market domination, you can see this in every branch, Entertainment, Solar / Wind, massive construction projects in South Africa, trade routes and now also in automotive. All to make China the beating heart of the worlds economy. The funny thing is, we as a consumer made it happen. We demanded lower prices and where fine with the compromises.

  11. About the quality of byd: that guy who said there are no problems about their cars since 2015, just have a look at the videos of China observer. Either the exported vehicles are off a significantly better quality than the domestic ones or it's a blatant lie

  12. I think anyone who promotes BYD as a serious, high-quality car is either remarkably misinformed or a shill for the Chinese Communist Party. Look at what the domestic Chinese say about their tofu-dreg cars

  13. Hi Dagogo
It would be great if you made a video about how Tesla influenced a powerful Youtuber (MKBHD) to make a video to try to totally destroy one of its small competitors Fisker Inc.
