42 thoughts on “Toyota Reveals Solid-State Battery Prototype Car (Update)

  1. "Solid state" ? I can see why is used at storage for pc as in hard drives and solid state ones. But here I don't see a logic when talking about batteries.

  2. You do not need to put the battery in a vehicle to fully test it. In fact it is better to have a control test environment for loading, temperature and vibration.

  3. Just the notion of saying that there is a chance of Toyota false advertising something in car industry , shows you do not have done enough research on Toyota.
You do not seem to grasp their mentality.
I would suggest to go back on research and you will see what is the difference between Toyota and the rest of the manufactures.

  4. I'll continue to drive Toyota Hybrids until they show up with their finest BEV effort. Buying a new Toyota Hybrid 15 years ago has been one of the soundest financial decisions I've ever made on a major purchase. I've tried other brands, unfortunately they never "feel" like a Toyota, and depreciate like a stone. Toyota products usually give great value for money in the ownership experience overall. They're an R&D giant with massive resources…when they arrive at the party, it'll be worth the wait. In the meantime I continue to experience reliable, safe and efficient driving in my ageing, yet ever faithful 2007 Prius.

  5. Why do they need a new car for testing a new battery? Isn't using the same EV that uses traditional liion battery have more and better comparisons? I guess it's a hype.

  6. I really want a small turbodiesel genset running a hybrid EV. . but for some reason running full recycled or biofuel just doesnt appeal to legislators in America. (my pickup is a 2.8l turbodiesel however), Jealous of you Europeans who get ridiculously awesome gas mileage without even a battery.

  7. It would make sense for them to double down on solid state batteries as they kind of missed the boat on the electric revolution given the size of the company. And I hope for them that they have started to realize that hydrogen is a dead end.

  8. I’m not singling out Toyota. Cars just get more and more impractical and downright homely. These featherweight cars don’t hold up well in New England. One pothole and they’re totaled.

  9. Toyota will not abandon ICE vehicles over night because they are responsible for transporting a major chunk of the developed world, which makes up most of the global population. They would be shooting themselves in the foot if they turn their backs on markets that are currently incapable of supporting EV infrastructure. Toyota's transition to zero emissions will be a gradual one that will take one to two decades, allowing the rest of the world to catch up to the West's first-adapters. ICE-only, hybrids and PHEV will be major components of that transitionary period.

  10. Toyota is the least most innovative car company in the world, right behind Nissan. They have the same looking camera, corolla, tundra for the past 2 decades. There's nothing innovative about Toyota. They stick to something for decades before they change it.

  11. Why do they always make concept cars look like the concept cars from the 1950's? Seriously this looks like the concept cars they had on display back then, these are horrible designs that are not functional and only there to grab attention. The problem is they have been using the same car for the last 70 years and it's past boring now.

  12. Toyota has been giving money in donations to American Nazi organisations and the fascists who plotted to end US democracy in the GOP. I wish them every failure.

  13. This video places way too much faith in Toyota and its competitors. If there's anything holding back progress in this field, it's these corporations themselves. It's a cute idea in theory to imagine that "competition breeds innovation", but the reality is that the most efficient approaches to any particular task are quite narrow, meaning a lot of companies will just end up reinventing the wheel several times, since they cannot make use of the advances made by others. Add on the awful patent system and IP laws, and you end up with incredibly slow progress and a few corporations having a monopoly on vital technologies.

On top of all of that, most of this tech is already coming from publicly funded R&D at universities. Corporations' main contribution is to just slap some decorations and a price tag on it. The best thing for EV development (and R&D in general) would be to "open source" all of these things. But you can't do that while the CEOs want to keep making money all for themselves.

  14. The electric cars IS A HYPE! What progress is it to procuce a car that only last 7-8 years and cost 70.000usd+?
Everyone knows Toyota last for decades…sss
    So..they are bringinga NEW solution…

I think if we all did this, we could "pump the Dagogo & Cold Fusion stock!" as Coffezilla says.
Edit: And buy the book if you are a thinker, it really is 5 star material. Mine was one of the 419 reviews.
PS: Any bright kid over 12 will enjoy Dagogo's book. Two of my nephews read it & loved it.

  16. The original electric car didn't need to be charged. It was self charging. That was the real Tesla car. It rivaled the gasoline vehicle in performance in terms of milage and durability.
