Let’s take a look at some of these long lost classic foods of the 1970s! Times have changed and some of them just wouldn’t work today but I do feel some need to be brought back!

  1. I remember the 123 jello the marathon candy bar, the whistle pop, the chocolate chewing gum that had the clown on the wrapper, the elephant on the coco krispy box before snap crackle and pop also the astro pop and the different swirled life saver suckers

  2. The snack cake which was the yellow frosted v the raspberry was like an almond crunch quite good! Also Pizza snax crackers were good too…..the test market for Jello instant in my area was Shaker maker…..and you literally can find its original flavor at Aldi the cheap instant pudding.

  3. Great post and thanks!! I remember the hoopla and having one of those Pillsbury Food Sticks and them saying it was astronaut space food approved! I've mentioned them in another post on retro candy, not sure if it was your post. I've also mentioned the Marathon bars which were very good. I loved the Smuggler bars -not sure if you mentioned those. I remember pudding in cans too. Wow we're getting old = the Tuna Twist coupon is for 7 cents off!!! Thanks for the laughs about the foil frozen dinner meals and the veggies getting in the desserts! ps I thought we have a lot of processed/un-natural flavored foods now but just take a look at those icky, sugary cereals we also had back then. Yuck! Best, from Colorado!

  4. this is when the obesity epidemic really took off, along with a million fast food shops on every corner. Humans didn't evolve to have this much food at arms reach.

  5. WOW !!! I remember eating Concentrate, It was a good morning cereal. And of course, I remember Swanson TV dinners IN the aluminum trays. Brings back SO many memories. I am now 64. Time flies!!!!

  6. I think the Marathon bar launched my lifetime love of chocolate and caramel. I love good caramel and when combined with good chocolate, you can keep your truffles and other type bonbons. I even named one of my cats Rolo. Rolo and Marathon duked it out for my affections

  7. This was a fantastic trip down memory lane! Here are a few things I miss from the 1970s:

Carnation Breakfast Bars – I think these disappeared sometime in the mid-1990s.
Oompas Candy by the Wonka Company – these were a precursor to Peanut Butter M&Ms. There was also a strawberry version.
Sour Cream and Onion Doritos – Cool Ranch is NOT the same thing.
Quisp Cereal – this resurfaces every now and then, but it's a rare occurrence.
Tom Moore sodas – there were mulitple flavors. Black Cherry was the best.
Nestle Choco-Lite – this was a chocolate bar with air bubbles. I think they had a similar Aero bar in the 1990s.

I wish I could find a "Grocery Store of the Lost" that would carry all these items.

  8. I loved the Mug-O-Lunch beef/noodles. Tasted great, and super easy to make. Paired well with a frozen burrito.

Ho Hos used to come wrapped in foil too, going back to the 60s for that one possibly.

  9. Remember Food Sticks (quasi space food)..sort of a dry version of a Tootsieroll! LOL. Always remember the Marathon Bar..and wondered why it was never a foot long!

  10. Long before Google there were Googles, a vanilla cake with cinnamon bits. Koo Koos were similar to Ding Dongs, while Razzys made the rounds with yellow cake and raspberry frosting. The Peanuts gang pitched these treats, and the fruit pies were also quite tasty.

  11. I grew up in the '60s and '70s and I just don't remember an awful lot of these. Maybe because my mom didn't buy them? I bought Ding Dongs in foil at school every day.

  12. OMG! Koogle banana!
i can almost taste what it was back then. Too bad it's no longer around ๐Ÿ™
Kraft made a limited come back with the same flavors but not the same name.
    I was so happy!
    But it didn't last ๐Ÿ™
