Whoever says that Michigan doesn’t have the fire is about to be proven wrong. Today’s guest is a keeper not only of insane Prop 215 lore, but also one of the real-deal pioneers of the medical and recreational scene in MI, actively setting the standard for A-1 smoke and the right way to get it into the hands of the people 7 days of the week.
Blackleaf is joined back in the FSOTD studio by the legend himself, Andrew Thomas, of Exclusive Brands, to discuss the late 90s and early 2000s, bouncing around LA and visiting places like the iconic dab bar at Kind Meds, as well as Michigan’s claims to fame in terms of Chem, OG, and Gas genetics, the prominence of customers driving in from border states like Ohio and Illinois to get MI prices and premium flower options, as well as the future of the industry in terms of interstate commerce, and safe, traditional banking, marketing access, and so much more.
For those unaware, Exclusive Brands is a vertically-integrated retailer with (currently) seven shops running across the state including in Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Monroe, Muskegon, Lowell, Coldwater, Lapeer, and Gaylord. Their portfolio includes their in-house labels like Concentrate Kings, Strain Kings, Terpene Tanks, Magic Edibles, and more, offering a full range of products from flower and vapes to edibles and concentrates. Exclusive emphasizes quality and transparency with lab-tested products and educates consumers through rewards, weekly deals, and (most importantly) knowledgeable and attentive staff, with an expansive line of merchandise and in-house product.
You’ll also get to hear about how they became the first in the state to get the licensing to manufacture and distribute major California stables like Kushy Punch. And even the story about how Andrew’s partner eventually even acquisitioning the Kushy Punch brand after it had a very public legal fallout. We’re not joking when we say that this episode is JUICY in terms of free game and crazy stories surrounding partnerships, trapping, building the dream team, expanding into 5+ shops, and how to keep a lid on it with an almost religious connection to customer service paired with aggressively competitive prices.
From producing mixtapes with The Game and countless other hip-hop legends as a teenager to diving headfirst into California’s early Prop 215 days to absorb the culture, set up shop, trap it out, and then bring all the knowledge back to Michigan the minute Medical hit, it’s almost impossible not to learn something valuable from this conversation with Andrew if you’re a hustler or even just a passionate fan of the plant. Hit the play button, kick back until the end, and you’ll thank us later. Visit Exclusivemi.com to learn more about everything you’re missing out on in the Michigan scene.

This place is shit, horrible bud tenders and customer service and stupid prices.
I wish out-of-staters could actually look at the Exclusive app… I know you guys stay way too busy to be calling you & asking about diff products but that is cool as hell that you have developed your own brand app… salute to u man I guess I'll just wait until I'm in your state to look at the app so it's all good but kudos to you man for developing your own brand app. @48:25 when Lance mentioned how much a good rosin gram costs in Cali I almost dropped my boiled egg
Would love to see John Bartlett of Local Grove from Michigan on the podcast. You had high-tech and growing pains and a bunch of other killer brand's. There my 2nd favorite brand in Michigan.
Michigans governor and the A.G. Are cool women who are for the people. Shout out to big Gretch!
For those not in Michigan, Ann Arbor is the home of the university of Michigan… hash bash is 2 days held every year since the mid 1970’s . Smoking weed in the streets was a $5.00 fine…. Even now it’s $25 fine. Hash bash isn’t nearly as hyped as it was years ago, but you still get about 100,000 people in town.
Great history lesson
Now imagine the amount of legal home growers in Michigan. I’m in canton, 20 min from Ann arbor, 25 min from Detroit. 3 hours east of Grand Rapids…. I’d say one home grower in Michigan per street here.
Cookies went out of business in MI. Trash weed was the problem
In all honesty it was BS they were allowed to have a micro grow license when they were stonewalling everyone else. That doesn’t sit well with a lot of us in the state. Then and a some others got to be “privileged”. Great for them and bad for everyone else.
Absolutely terrible company to do a video with in Michigan… way too much controversy around this company
Connoisseur collective is legendary

When does the code expire? Exclusive in Coldwater has been my go-to dispo for a couple years now.
I’m in detRIOT. Bought at least 6 clones from them. All clean. All healthy. Gelato 33,LCG,blue nerds,Zoda and RS11. In veg now
Ohio on here sounding like Colorado when they found out Michigan did 100 million more in sales than them 😂
Loving all the interviews with Michigan companies. There's a lot of good weed being grown out there and never have a hard time getting high.
Where’s pack gods been? Did I miss something?
I’m still laughing about the Ohio comment 3 days later 🤣😂😭 please please show me a better grower in Michigan then we have here in Ohio you won’t, Michigan is dirty meds.
