You have to remember this was during Covid and many people got quoted things for remodels etc and then costs changed drastically and the homeowner either has to pay to have a finished home and sue later especially if they can’t show the cost on the developers end increased – it happened to my sister she was renovating a home and a contractor was basically using the upfront payment (30%) from a new job that would start in 2 months to cover material costs for the current job and he wasn’t a scammer he did good work just not a great business man or maybe spent to lavishly personally, then Covid hits and the money set aside to purchase materials for the renovation and pay the workers isn’t sufficient and now the homeowner has an unliveable home cus demolition for the renovation has started, and the contractor says I either need more $ than we agreed on or I just can’t do any more work – u can try to sue, but no promise you’ll get your reward, you want your house done so u pay the extra and then sue later on hoping to recover cost for breach of contract, cus everyday ur paying ur mortgage plus rent to live somewhere during the renovation it was more common than expected
