   I was on a discord with some aussies who were goin on and on about custom building their old utes and wagons. The indviduality of each of them made me love Aussies even more. The things I'd do for one of them old right hand drive wagons these boys down under got are shameful

The death of Australian car manufacturing I suspect can in no small part be traced back to guys in suits back in Detroit who (for reasons that I can't seem to find any information on) only cared about whether the US division was making profit or not and if that meant sacrificing overseas operations, so be it.

    I am by no means an expert in business but what I do know is that if one part of the business (particular markets, particular products/product lines or whatever) is making a chunk of profit then the logical thing for the business to do is to focus on the profitable part and ensure that part remains as profitable as possible rather than killing something that's making a bunch of money in order to pump up unprofitable parts of the business.

    For example if a particular toy line isn't making as much money for Hasbro anymore, they don't throw good money after bad to try and keep that toy line going, they focus on other toy lines that are making more profit. Or if less people in one market are buying Hasbro toys and more people in another market are buying them, they would put more resources (stock allocations, marketing budget etc) into the market where people actually want to buy what they have to sell.

    Exactly why GM (in particular) thought that ripping out all the resources and money from the places where they were making lots of money in order to prop up a market where no-one was actually buying their cars was a good idea is beyond me. If I was a GM shareholder, I wouldn't have cared if their profits came from selling Holdens in Australia, Chevys in the states, Opals in Germany, Buicks in China or whatever else as long as profits, share prices and returns to investors kept going up.

22. I think I've only ever seen 6 4×4's on roads that have been used for offroading before. All the cars here are super tall and way oversized for purpose, so shorter cars have a real rough go of it on the roads.

26. I’ve hit those tracks in the watagans in my 80, had my RX7 on the same race track, R31 on the WSID drag strip they showed, mum lives down the road from ‘the bend’ and currently driving a Barra powered typhoon.

Countries like france or sweden, small, resource starved, not only keep car manufacturers going but also military grade vehicles, jet fighters… and resource rich australia doesnt even make a fucking bicycle. Someone tell me our government hasnt failed us. Someone explain to me why i shouldnt feel completely betrayed with successive leaders turning us into a bunch of office workers, paper pushing bureaucrats parasiting their existance, loudly complaining theyre not taxing enough off the last few of us actually creating something physical, real… yea i grew up with Holdens being the most seen cars on the road.
