  1. I've worked in this industry, designing blood pumps, LVADs and yes, artificial hearts. What Dr Timms and his team at BiVacor have accomplished is truly amazing. They have been working on this for my entire 20+ year career. It's truly a marvel of modern engineering that deserves recognition.

  2. Excellent piece thank you Da Gogo.
It wouldn't surprise me if I end up with one of these a ways down the track. I have heard of them before but not in so much detail.
Owning my own company it would also not surprise me if I ended up donating funds to this endeavour as soon as I am able.
Thx again champ, your work is most appreciated. 😉

  3. It’s only a matter of time before better technology maturity and durability for artificial hearts. I can see it being additively manufactured based on the patient body type with part consolidation and the freedom to optimise the fluid-structure path.

  4. How about we replace all of our organs with artificially made mechanical ones? Every single one, maybe even mind, then we'd finally know if souls exist

  5. Wow this is the very concept of KISS. The previous artificial hearts were marred by over complexity. When you look at how simple this titanium heart is…. It really is KISS

    Keep
    It
    Simple
    Stupid

  6. They didn't talk about this in the video, but is there something protecting the magnetic field that the maglev is creating? What happens if you get next to a strong magnetic field unintentionally? I'm not trying to be negative here but I didn't really see anything talking about potential downfalls or risk.

  7. The heart is not a pump. It's more of a mediator or a complex check valve with a "braking feature".

Youtube the heart is not a pump. The blood flows through and in/out of the heart, even before the heart is fully developed, and even after the heart dies. Mankind is barely beginning to understand the processes in the body as a whole, but the capillaries seem to function similar to how 400' tall trees pull water up to the canopy from the earth fighting gravity the entire way. They don't have hearts or pumps.

  8. What I found out when looking into the literature is that, similar pumps can be used to reduce the strain on the heart. By doing that the heart can regenerate as I is less „stressed“. Sometimes even so much, that the pump can be removed and the original heart reconnected
