Understanding the different types of hermaphroditism in cannabis, including genetic predisposition, rodelization, and chemical induction, is crucial for effective cultivation and breeding. While each method has its own set of advantages and challenges, the knowledge of these processes allows growers to make informed decisions in their breeding practices. Unfortunately, there seems to be an active interest to is not enough knowledge accessible to the public and the consumer market for cannabis seeds is completely unregulated, so it is up to us to self regulate.

There are 3 different types of hermaphrodites known in cannabis and they are outlined in this video:

1. Weak Genetics 1:02
One of the primary reasons for hermaphroditism in cannabis plants is genetic predisposition. It occurs when the cannabis plant inherently possesses the genetic tendency to develop both male and female reproductive organs. This is a recessive genetic and any offspring from a hermaphrodite will carry the gene for hermaphroditism.
Weak genetics can lead to a higher likelihood of hermaphroditic traits being expressed under stress or less-than-ideal growing conditions. This is problematic for cultivators aiming for either purely female or purely male plants, as hermaphrodites can lead to unwanted pollination and a reduced yield of consumable flowers.

2. Rodelization 1:40
Rodelization is a natural form of hermaphroditism that occurs as a stress response in female cannabis plants. When a female plant is not pollinated and reaches the end of its lifecycle, it may develop male reproductive organs as a last resort to self-pollinate and produce seeds. This happens after a plant is ready to harvest and it is a natural survival mechanism. Breeders can use this method to create feminized seeds, but it is important to note that this method is less controlled and less reliable compared to other feminization techniques. All of the offspring will also have a genetic predisposition for rodelization.

3. Chemical Inhibitors: Silver Thiosulfate & Colloidal Silver 2:10
In contrast to genetic and natural stress-induced hermaphroditism, certain chemicals can be used to deliberately induce hermaphroditism in cannabis plants. The most common chemicals used for this purpose are silver thiosulfate and colloidal silver.

A. Silver Thiosulfate (STS)
Silver thiosulfate is a compound that effectively inhibits the production of ethylene, a hormone responsible for flowering in cannabis plants. When applied to female plants, STS can lead to the development of male flowers, which contain female genetic material. This method is highly effective and controlled, making it a preferred choice for breeders looking to produce feminized seeds. The offspring produced will only turn to hermaphrodites when they are subjected these chemical inhibitors which are foreign to all soils and nutrients available in the cannabis grow space.

B. Similarly, colloidal silver, which consists of tiny silver particles suspended in liquid, is sprayed onto female plants. This also blocks ethylene production and triggers the development of male flowers. Colloidal silver is particularly popular among home growers due to its accessibility and ease of use, but it requires more applications than STS.

41 thoughts on “The TRUTH about Feminized Seeds & Herms – LAZY Breeders & Ethics in Cannabis Seed Production

  1. Note: Hermie's are not the end of the world if you are growing for yourself and don't mind picking the seeds. The problem is, you have to hand pick the seeds out of your buds before grinding it or you will jam up your grinder. Anyone who gets this bud will be extremely annoyed. Seeded bud can still smoke as good as non seeded, but overall yield will be reduced due to the plants resources going into the seeds. If you unintentionally grow a herm, turn off all fans, remove all the pollen sacs, spray the floor with water and continue to do this everyday until harvest. Depending on the intensity of the hermaphrodotism, the work may get overbearing. If it looks like a male, I would just kill the plant and get seeds from a ethical breeder. Share your herm stories on my Discord: https://bit.ly/3NS8BDX

  2. Where's the discord link. I've been telling my bosses who have just been throwing strains at me like it's going out of style, large scale and huge pheno diversity. Funt timesπŸŽ‰

  3. Why take clones at flower and not before? No need for having the reveg and cloning stress traces in the genetics or am I missing something? Anyways, cool vid!

  5. Sometimes it really is our fault. I left an 8” opening open in the bottom of my tent once and it let in enough light to germ different good genetics. Ideally you don’t want to stress your plants at all

  6. I was onto these seed companies the moment I read how many viable seeds just one properly pollinated female can produce. It is just too easy for them to cut corners and be greedy. I'm so glad I started picking up grow/breeding books about 20 years ago. I mean Seed Junky is out here charging fifty dollars a fvcking seed. That's criminal. I just found your content, and I'm already in love with it brother. Tons of great info and good vibes. Keep up the great work.

  7. I busted out laughing when you said "bitch ass strains!" πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜…

When I sow/ cut a Clone a seed and they die quickly I always say "you weak bitch" πŸ˜…

  8. I believe in your cbd project. I bought some prerolls from a local shop, and smoked one before bed. Didn't get high but relaxed and slept great. Thc high doesn't really help me sleep like the cbd does

  9. Is it okay to reverse a feminized plant without worrying about it messing up the genetics and lowering potency and yield? Should I only ever reverse regular seeds to make my own feminized seeds? I’m thinking that’s the case but if all I need to do is test to make sure those few seeds are stable and do not herm is it okay to spray sts on multiple generations in a row without deteriorating the genetic makeup? It seems like it would be safer to use the regular seed and reverse that female so the offspring are only tainted once. Thoughts?

  10. Would be dope if you did more vids like this. There aren't a lot of videos about specific breeders. Would also love to hear you rant about sprayed buds and these new fangled terp sprays

  11. Thank you for verifying this Grand master Sexy gave me allot of issues and i genuinely gave it my all an felt like a less than grower because it Hermed but in all reality this strain is NOT stable that’s just my feelings and opinion Great video keep up the amazing work!

  12. Could you shed some light on these IG growers. I see alot of them and the stuff looks great but there's no real way to know unless you purchase and get burned. I'd like to know which ones to stay tf away from

  13. I recently got a 3 pack of feminized Opium by divine seed co. Pack was probably super old so only got one to actually pop. Currently nearing mid-flower now. The thing is even though it's labeled as feminized, it started flowering super early even in full 24 hour light. Could this have been the result of stress since the seed was old, possibly the plant trying to get to flower as quick as possible?

  14. Everything you said is true and it cost me a entire cycle. Lost 22 ladies from 1 day to the next at week 7. Too early to cut and too late to stop the seed genie was out of the bottle.

  15. I've gotta load awesome land races including best genetics about without herbies defo email bro sendin good vibes gromie πŸ΄σ §σ ’σ ³σ £σ ΄σ ΏπŸ’šπŸŒ±πŸ”₯πŸ’―πŸ‘

  16. I'm not exactly what proof you would like to see to prove my need for CBD seeds. I can send photos of our medical records or just photos of our scars. I just started growing last summer and discovered that weed really will help with the pain and sleep problems. If only it had age-reversing properties. I have been growing mystery seeds and plan on buying CBD seeds after the first of the month. I had forgot how much fun growing was. It's strange for us knowing it's now legal!!

  17. I got beans from "ILoveGrowingMarijuanna". Bad, bad, bad. I had every problem possible. Half never germed. Of those that did, there was one full on male. The survivors were genetically mutated. They grew but I lost big on this crop. Never again.

  18. the 'trans-plant' epidemic 🀣🀣 u know its bad when breeders try advertising ther rushed unstable genetics as "its great fun pheno hunting these what pheno did you get" like dude i think your selling these a few years too early dont they need to be stable n these guys be like "pffft na man thats just my strains different phenos" fully getting new unexperienced growers buying whats essentially totally random n calling it a name cos they know sooo many people dont understand 5 cookies seeds wont make 5 identical twins.. Its kinda as if feminized seeds being so convenient and allowing them to skip the process of selection from a pool of say 5 or 10, like we always knew thered be males runts n hopefully 1 unicorn if your lucky or at least a dominant leader to clone as your named strain but removing all that process seems to make most people think cookies seed=cookies weed they dont have the knowledge and experience of everything to realise they being hustled when they get really varied unstable seeds or herms and told its their own fault like its such a shame the newer smokers hav to navigate a minefield of misinformation either by scammers or corporate canna and sadly so many of them dont really socialise with older people to be able to even learn any truth half of em dont even speak to a dealer anymore all too psyopped into anxiety so they order online and remove that last final human contact from their lives leaving them totally vulnerable to all the new lies and products rules or whatever it is beamed down thru their screens.. What a strange time kinda seems like we r heading to either terminator or demolition man style future and fast lol! βœŒβ€πŸ˜ŽπŸ€·β€
