25 thoughts on “1970s Forgotten TV Halloween Specials

  1. About 10 years ago, I went looking for "Halloween is Grinch Night" because I always loved it. They were selling a "Dr. Seuss's Holidays on the Loose!" with that special as well "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" and "The Grinch Grinches the Cat in the Hat." Best investment to date πŸ˜…

  2. "Great Pumpkin" and "Mad Monster Party" are hard acts to follow, but at least in the '70s they tried. That's why kids today are depressed and angry: nobody makes holiday-themed TV specials for them.

  3. Amazing how the film "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" has remained a perennial classic, given almost mythical status, yet its Halloween sequel has seemingly fallen into obscurity. It's all about marketing I guess.

  4. The Charlie Brown special is the only one I remember seeing . Thanks for all your hard work in bringing us these great videos Rhetty !! πŸŽƒπŸ‘»πŸ’€ Happy Halloween

  5. Don't know if you would consider it a Halloween special, but the devil and Daniel mouse. I remember it airing on Halloween in 79 or 80. Haven't seen it since. But I do have a animation cell of the cartoon & a paper back story book of the show. I sure it can be found on YouTube like every think else.

  6. Garfield Halloween special! It's so dated now, but I still love watching it! It's a fantastic snapshot of 80s slang writing, simple animation, and John, who is remarkably like Rick and Morty's Jerry πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  7. This video had two of my favorites. "Witch Night's Out" and "Halloween is Grinch Night." There was also Disney's "Disney's Halloween Treat" where the original showed "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." I try to watch that cartoon every Halloween season.

  8. Great video! I grow up as a kid in the 80's and thought the Disney channel during October played the best Halloween shows. My favorites were: Halloween is Grinch Night, The Halloween That Almost Wasn't, The Pumpkin Who Couldn't Smile, Which Witch is Which?, Blackbeards Ghost, Disney Halloween and Witches Night Out. What a great time. During that time, as a kid in Oct, even the air felt and smelled and just seemed different.

  9. i am lucky enough to have on dvd paul lynde halloween. Mad monster party w/ Boris karloff, fat albert and the Addams family halloween special converted from vhs I do remb the grinch one.Don't like it muchπŸŽƒ

  10. Happy Halloween dude. It's not the same now though. Ah to be a kid again. i remember dressing up as Ace Frehley when I was a kid my friend did the makeup. I think the great Pumpkin Charlie Brown was one I watched back in the good old days. Hey what about Gate Night? Me and my friends would gather outside and they would phone me to make sure I brought the eggs in the carton and they had the Toilet Paper and water and we would go around the neighborhood and toilet paper the trees and there was one house that never opened upon Halloween that was our target for Egg throwing lol. Ah good times, I miss them so much now. No kids of my own so I can't relive those memories.

  11. The one that kept me up at night was the Star Wars Halloween Special from 1979 where Chewbaccer was trying to get home to take his kids trick or treating but the emperor outlawed Halloween when some kids dressed up as him, so he sent an evil dark side Jedi named Michael Jason Kruger, who had great power to the Jedi kids camp on crystal planet to kill all the youngling jedis, he tracked down each one of them and killed them one at a time each in a different way. This young jedi was so powerful that things that would kill normal jedis were just shrugged off, it is even said he may be immortal and has the power to enter the minds of young jedis and kill them in their sleep using only his mind.

  12. Happy SpooktoberπŸŽƒπŸ•·πŸ‘» Appreciate you sharing!πŸ–€πŸ’œπŸ§‘ I shared this on my Facebook group A Time for All SeasonsπŸ•·πŸŽƒπŸͺ¦

  13. I don't think that Special was the first time Margaret Hamilton reprised her role as the Wicked Witch. She played the Witch on Sesame Street and appeared as herself on a Mr. Rogers episode where she then showed kids how she put on the makeup and got into the costume. Maybe i'm wrong, but i believe those appearances happened before that Halloween Special

  14. I was 19 in 1976 I miss every one of the cartoons and tv specials I think it really stinks that none of this exists now for kids getting up on a Saturday morning to watch cartoons and knowing when a holiday was coming around and knowing that tv specials we're going to be coming on have the Easter Bunny all the Halloween ones, and of course Christmas and New Year's I don't remember the last time I saw any of these and it really stinks I'm almost 67 years old I hope before I die that I get to see all of these specials again
