  1. I was a Radio Shack Store Manager from 1980 thru 1991. Shopping Malls in the '80's were THE Central Hub of American Life, with countless throngs in attendance everyday, ESPECIALLY on weekends. Thanks for this trip down Memory Lane. Cheers!

  2. It’s not difficult to get nostalgic and feel a little melancholy when watching videos of this nature. The 70’s, 80’s and even into the 90’s were the best times for going to the mall and shopping at these stores and so many others that are no longer with us. So sad. 😞

  3. Going to the mall every weekend was a treat for my brothers and I when we were younger. It was a routine my father got into after him and my mother divorced. Because he was so busy during the week with work he'd bring us to the mall to look around and if we were good we'd get something.

Our mall wasn't/isn't as big as malls in other places. But we did have a decent selection of stores at the time. Our visit always started with parking at HILLS where we'd make our way through first. We'd also go look in Babbages as well when computers were becoming more popular. The same went for Electronics Boutique.

As kids, besides the electronics department in HILLS our favorite stores in the mall were K B Toys as well as the toy section in Service Merchandise. We also liked looking at all of the whacky stuff and parts in Radio Shack. Sometime in the later 90's we also got a Toys R Us that ended up closing just a few years after it opened. Looking in SEARS was also a big thing for my father because he was always looking for some new tool to buy. 🙂

  4. I've been working at a mall part time (2nd gig) since the 80s. Something about being in a mall. Meet great people and see the lastest merch first. And good discounts.

  5. So many memories!! I looked forward to going to the local malls(Memphis) as a kid in the 70's. When i learned to drive(1985), me and my family or my buddies used to go to malls to check out the girls. When i was in the Navy(San Diego, Long Beach, and Lakewood, CA), the mall was like a 2nd home. Now some of the malls that are still around are half empty.

  6. I used to love malls in the 80s as a teenager. There was actually a lot to do if you were a boy or someone who wasn't dripping with cash. There were music stores, book stores, game stores, arcades, sporting goods and novelty stores like Spencer's Gifts. Now when I go to malls, I see way more high-end stores selling jewelry, luxury brands, Apple stores, etc. There would literally not be anything I would be interested in or could afford if I were a teenaged boy today. Something else I used to see were lines at the registers and people carrying bags of stuff they bought everywhere. Now most people in these fancy malls walk around with empty hands, maybe an ice cream cone.

  7. I have been to a few of these stores probably all of them back then I would walk around the malls. I remember radio shack being a good place to find things you don't know were to find specific things and end up discovering more useful great things. Now the other store you know for sure what you going to find and that was also great. Especially when they have video games also that tends to sell out in other stores at the time. Good times. Cool video. ^_^

  8. The JC Penny Outlet store was a good one for finding odd pants that I couldn't find elsewhere, circa 2004. Going farther back in time, Waldenbooks and Thornbury's Toys were two from my younger days in the '80s.
