Threads, a Twitter clone is officially the most rapidly downloaded app in history, gaining 100 million users in 5 days. Yes, using instagram to populate the app played a large part in it’s growth, but what’s more interesting in the protocol Meta plans to use. Who will come out on top? What about privacy issues? In this episode, we look at the boiling feud between two billionaires.

44 thoughts on “Twitter vs Threads is More Interesting Than You Think

  1. You really don't want something like activity pub around. You will have no way of compatmentalizing your life. Not good. Your personal information–in real time–will be an open book to anyone with money… to advertisers, governments, media, or the enemies you never knew you had… who ever.

  2. Under Musk's rule, I see more CCP bots with blue check mark spreading lewd stuff in the comment section of users that criticised CCP. Including activists and lawyers.

  3. How much did Zuck paid you for this threads ad? It's quite interesting how some media does the same thing as you, remembering the bad stuff about Twitter, while forgetting all the good Elon has done, a person that btw has a lot of experience on internet/services, look at PayPal origins, or how in months has implemented many features to Twitter while having less than 1/3 of the employees

  4. Honestly Social Media has caused much fatigue for most people i know! Most ppl continue to have instagram account to watch reels or stories. Thats it! There are far too many apps in the market to take up effective mind share of people

  5. Launching threads right after Elon implemented a reading limit was a huge part of their success imo. At least for me its the main reason I got it

  6. Decentralized social media is a far better manifestation of a meta verse. Zuck knows how to pivot. He should move couches.

  7. Your report is dishonest. Twitter ALWAYS had a problem with monetising… Elon was not the start of that. It was propped up by State funding and idealogically motivated advertising based off that. Elon removed that State approval and lost that assciated advertisting, but is STILL turning it into a proft.

But, whatever, I have zero interest in a platform without friction and I suspect that's the majority view.. I have RL for that. We like social media as a place to see non State views and agruments. I am sick of pretending that we don't.

  8. I hate twitter for what it is now….but I don't trust meta either! Caught between a rock and hard place 🤷‍♂ I hope there'll be a better alternative so I can leave twitter for good!

  9. Twitter was the greatest collection of random experts on niche current events. It's a shame that it will likely blow up. Already seeing way less activity recently (months, not weeks).
Finance is one of the few "niches" that skew right. Most skew left.

  10. My problem with Twitter isn't the platform itself but the insufferable people who treat as though it's important.
This especially true of media types. A number changing on their phone = bullying. A compilation is tweets is a "news article".
