46 thoughts on “Jay Electronica – Hip Hop’s Biggest Let Down

  1. Hating on Jay for entangling a chick who admitted her marriage was over before the fact and that Jay changed her life for the better as something so morally offensive that turns Jay into a hypocrite because of his religiousness. And Jay isn't a let down he produced so much of great music and he dropped it when he could while battling his own demons and he has issues like the rest of us. Clickbaity title and miss leading arguments, typical tabloid content.

  2. People are more obsessed with the myth around J E than the artist himself. The dude spit a few dope verses and now people genuflect whenever someone mentions his name.

  3. I wouldn't say he's a let down. He may have let down people trapped in a temporal moment, but his greatness will live on far longer than what he should've done within an industry to satisfy other people. His verses are full of wisdom, and he is the only person who can speak about conspiracy's without sounding corny. Genius.

  4. The other thing is that he couldn't even give his fans all new tracks. He reused tracks like Shiny Suit Theory on the album which had been released already years ago

  5. Trap, love the content man. There is no B by design. Jay. Electronica. A and C. AC. Alternative Current. Nikola Tesla Spark is an attempt to explain the manifestation of Jay himself.

  6. Youre a culture vulture. Your accent alone proves you don't know what you're talkin about and nobody's really going to listen to what you're saying anyway just because of that and I honestly think that you're just trying to make people angry for quick value and that's crazy too because somebody in some dark corner is going to catch you and it won't be pretty you better hope it's not Jay either

  7. Okay so this was a shoot the messenger scenario you should consider yourself under a Target buddy urinalysis couldn't be way more off base and it's cool just admit you're a fan and just admit that you're disappointed it happens but obviously again he wasn't doing it for you or your type

  8. Bro your whole career and outlook on hip hop as well as life has been discredited in 29 minutes and 15 seconds. I don’t know what this man did to you but this level of hate even against a mere mortal is never acceptable, but against J Elec?? This is grounds for a lifetime STFU sanction! SMH

  9. Jay Electronica is one of the HARDEST EMCEES of our time! If you ARE NOT in on around the music industry you wouldn't know some of why he movin how he movin!

  10. this video is a bad video. i waited 10 years, a written testimony is fire and i’ve been to see jay elect live twice ever since and it was amazing

  11. Honestly, stupid video. Dumb takes. You can’t be angry at him for not dropping what you expect him to drop, not doing what you want him to do. Artists don’t owe you anything. They can do what they want to do, art is free.

Also, referencing movies and other media is the most key thing in music ever. Let people sample dude, lmao.

The comments prove you gotta have something personal with Jay Electronica to dislike him. People are sharing their experiences and loving him.

If anyone is prententious its you dude

  12. There was a lot of truth in this video, but also a lot of subjective feelings and moralism that I could do without. It's definitely true that when Jay Elec came out, he was considered a savior of hip hop. I'm only speaking for myself, but Jay had something I hadn't heard in a very long time, and also something I had never heard before at all. His combination of an obviously deep love and respect for hip hop, it's virtues and it's history, combined with a highly advanced flow, an almost literary lyricism with a real sense of poetry and with thought provoking references, a believability in terms of his personal history, and an insanely sharp and intersting beat selection, those things basically made him one of a kind, something I had never really seen before in all of hip hop, although there are of course other highly advanced rappers. This was something new, though. The next level.

That poetic sensibility that Jay has, or had, is something quite rare, and it's understandable if everyone isn't tuned in to it. The comparison with Kendrick Lamar, for instance, is completely misplaced. I get that Kendrick is way more prolific and has tried to push the boundaries of hip hop with a more artistic side as well, etc., but Kendricks lyrical ability is like the shadow of a flame in comparison. His language isn't very interesting or stimulating, although he can definitely rap. The video kind of lacked a recognition of Jay's core talent in that regard.

On the whole Rothschild affair, I'm really not into gossip, but that is obviously what this channel is kind of about. But really, who cares what somebody does in his private life like that? Who's judging? No one knows what kind of private feelings were involved in that. They may have been in love. She may have been unhappy in her marriage. Shit happens. Who cares? And is it really inconsistent to date a Rothschild? Imo it's actually pretty consistent to be intelligent and curious enough to try to penetrate the upper echolons of society and to remove the veil of the supposed Illuminati. No use in just mumbling conspiracy theories to yourself in the street.

But obviously it would have been more impressive if an affair like that was on a background of an active carreer in hip hop. The fact that Jay Elec never dropped his album and then suddenly appeared on a kind of Jay-Z collab album just showed a lack of artistic spirit and integrity. And I agree that a lot of the religious mysticism and 5 percent references just turned out to be empty jargon. But that doesn't cancel out the original fire of the first productions. He just lost his inspiration, as many rappers do, although they continue to drop albums. I guess the drug and alcohol abuse was just too detrimental to his genius. And probably also too high standards.

  13. Ok I just went through the comments and it basically seems like everyone just upset that they didn't get another exhibit the production is different so y'all don't like that this is literally the same shit Earl went through srs was ass and unpopular but then ppl let it grow on them y'all gotta learn to separate art from opinion any ARTIST wether they liked it or not can see the skill soul and passion that was put into it he literally cried preforming the last song on stage
I will concede it's not good on a commercial stand point but this album will b studied in music theory classes in the next 5 to 10 yrs watch

  14. With his ties to the Nation of Islam, I can see a potential motivation for his lack of music. A lot of Muslims go in and out of music and have this conflict as at the end of the day it is haram

  15. I knew his Mac miller verse made no god damn sense,
My milk and honey, my chérie-chérie amore

My Cinderella in her carriage by the doorway

Her ruby slipper made the wizard send the scarecrow

And the lion through the forest

To the Wicked Witch's fortress where she scorched them in the foreplay

Remember that? He said he'd fight the box to see the wizard

When he was visited by Dorothy who came here on a blizzard…..

This is just the rambling a drunk narcassist drying to seem deep making no god damn sense

  16. You're right I'm part of the 85% I wanted to know what/who the F**k is Jay Electronica until I watch this video I didn't even know about this dude and I grew up at of my life in Brooklyn so I'm fan of some of Jay-Z's music from the Reasonable Doubt to The Black Album after thay Jay-Z lost me the only other current album Jay-Z released that I kinda like it The Blueprint 3 but with the Electronic guy he was just clout chasing, but it back fired.

  17. When you mentioned all of the messages that Jay electronica put into his music including his religious beliefs, you did nothing but give him accolades for it. However when Kanye has a record that's based on Christian beliefs you say he "made eating up all that religious nonsense almost fun"? I'm just saying if you can respect one man for their beliefs why not the respect the other one for his beliefs? You didn't call Jay electronica's Islam "religious nonsense"?
