46 thoughts on “Emulating Nature When Gardening? – From the Stash Podcast Ep. 81

  1. I used to sell to medical clubs in Oakhurst CA. I grow outdoors fenced so no deer or other wildlife could enter. I had good wind protection in place. The club sold indoor and my stuff for $50 a 1/8. Mine looked every bit as good as lower end indoor but the smell of mine would kick you in face and I think that’s why it went for $50.

  2. I live in California, I get 1 harvest a year outdoor, and multiple harvests indoors a year. Been growing for years. My indoor always turns out better quality. But my outdoor always yields more.

  3. I grow outdoors, but I'm new (third grow) and inconsistent.
My first was from seed and did great!
My second were clones, and all the flowers went brown… Still smokin it tho.
Now I'm growin from seed again, and have seen my first nanners.

  4. You guys brought up some excellent points. Being a guy that grew up in south FL in the 60s and 70s, we had Colombian Gold seeded pot. We grew massive plants on little islands in the everglades called hammocks. We never did more than threw massive hands full of seed on the ground and returned usually too early or to late, but got enormous plants with enormous harvests. Until we grew them in our own back yards we didn't know what sensimilla was! I don't think people would believe many of my stories but the climate and soil in certain places in FL makes for unbelievable growth and potency. That said, I can't even come close here in VA! I've never seen an indoor plant even 1/2 the size or as good tasting or more dense buds or even the same high as those we grew outdoors back in the day, seriously! Just thought I should make some points, not sure if there are others than the group of guys I grew with, that have similar experiences. Curious!

  5. Hey guys, great topic. Would love to talk to you guys about growing in South Africa 🇿🇦 .
Thanks for the content all of you create, it has helped me dramatically become a better Gardener.
Please send my regards to Trey and Green Goblin.

  6. Weed and equipment has come a long way even for me starting around 2004. Been growing outside for 3 years now n the only thing thats a bitch is weather. It is alot of work but it becomes a routine like anything else.

  7. Hello guys ! Great content ! I'd like to say that KNF is really good way to grow plants. Never get such results with other ways of growing…. So easy, so efficient…. Really like KNF…
Anyway, keep on like this….. Peace from France

  8. Alot of tricks of keeping pests and wild animals harmlessly to keep them away from your plants without hurting mother nature,, I've gorrila growed all my life and still I know the tricks lol

  9. I use the farmers almanac for my grows in va here my third year outdoor growing here if would like to chat or check out my new Chanel getting started Neanderthal nugz n I’ll show ya my plants I got last years up to harvest and I got this years being shot as of this year harvest is bout 90 days out beginning Oct

  10. I’m all about the indoor, I can control the environment and I rarely ever have pests, deficiencies or any of the issues that come with being outside. growing outdoors looks like fun but the pests and other problems that come with it not so much.

  11. Well what about situation that I am flirting around with where you do best of both worlds during really nice days you bring them outside and then when it’s not ideal you bring them inside and if you time it correctly where I am in Columbus Ohio end of October beginning couple weeks of November you get those frost cold nights does wonders

  12. I live in Beautiful northern Michigan and grow indoors in a tent in the winter, and outdoors in the summer in both hoop house and open air. Because of our climate, I seem to have heat stress in the hoop, not to mention the mold and mildew issues. The open air, in the ground does much better, but I have to start inside, and have taken down many plants way too early because it gets cold too quickly. My winter indoor grows are FIRE thanks to you guys and those doing informational vids! I have had HUGE yields from my outdoor and superior top shelf smoke, but, it really depends on the weather from year to year. Mold is the enemy here! I haven't lost an entire crop yet, but always lose some to the elements. This is no different from the fruit and vegies in the yard as well. GARDENING ROCKS!!!

  13. Of course we aren't emulating nature. Look at the cultivars everyone is growing. Almost no seed available is natural, even if it was grown outside. We've manipulated the plant & genetics sooo much that nature wouldn't even recognize it.

  14. 206g from one black widow plant with a 150watt ts1000… stand by miracle grow spaghnum peat moss in a 50 /50 mix with a organic potting soil and fox farm tri nutes used at about a 1/4 strength

  15. An argument of definitions really. Far too broad of a term haha. Loving the convos. Taking the most beneficial parts of nature and eradicating the harmful makes sense.

  16. Hi guys. Love the conversation. These vids have informed me extremely well. My first ever grow to date (White Widow in a 70cm x70cm space) has gone well with only a couple of issues which I was able to overcome. High PH issue and a fungal issue. However, I am now on day 40 of flower and am having issues controlling the environment as per recommended. Recommended temps at this point are between 21C – 26C and 45% RH. The temps have been fine but the small dehumidifier was struggling to bring down RH. Especially in the 24hrs after feeding/watering (topping out at 73%). I invested in a large dehumidifier and struggled to fit in tent but got there. The large dehimidifer did help bring down RH but increased internal temps to 29 Celsius. I removed and placed in the room beside the intake and reinstalled the small 1 inside the tent. With light on temp now 27.7 and RH is 50%. I am waiting to see figures with lights off.

The recommended RH & Temp for final 2 weeks of flower sees temp to drop to 21C – 26C & RH to drop to 35%. I cannot see me being able to achieve these numbers without a huge investment which I cannot afford?

Will I be able to get to the end of the grow without reaching these numbers or are these just ideal targets to maximise growth? What issues should I be keeping an eye out for?

Plant is in excellent condition at the minute. Have been using BioBizz soil & nutrients and sticking religiously to their schedule. It looks like I am going to have a very good harvest if all goes well for my first ever grow. I have had no need to use pest control measures and wish to avoid if possible.

Apologies for the essay but I am struggling to find an answer to this queston anywhere online.

  17. Early on it sounded like Pigeons had tried New Millennium and was going to comment on Jared's hype about the feed "emulating nature and the seasons".

Then Chris almost spoke on the Emerson effect and starting and ending the day with increased high red and IR. Almost mentioned it again at 17m; nearly.

What happened? I know what happened 💨😁.

  18. I live in the Pacific Northwest and there are strains of outdoor out here that have been bred for probably 50 years now, so maybe its also about generational seeds acclimatized to the region .

  19. Am i emulating nature, most certainly, that’s what gives me the ability to grow in different climates by emulating the same exact humidity , par , water, aeration , carbon to what i would type get outside, is it as good, No but yields and growth (Width) is much kore explosive

  20. What is the point of emulating what is in nature? Just grow outside. We grow indoors to give the plant the best environment every day. What is not naturally possible. We play the part of God and the Devil…

  21. I have grown outdoors and I decided to move to indoors. I had so much problem at the end that it’s disappointing to grow outside. I had aphids infestation, bud rot after, then winter came, rain and wind that broke branches which was hard to take. You guys have to remember also how far does technology have come. From HPS And MH that produce so much heat now we have LEDs. Soon we will be using a far more advance that may be near/closer to the spectrum of the sun. I know indoor growing is expensive but once you have produced your equipments, that will take about 3 to 5 to 6 years before they need replacement. The only downside of indoor is the electricity, if it fails pray that it will be back within 5 hours. I am covered though luckily, I obtained a couple of server power backups that I only use for fans. Lights are ok to be cut off but fans, I want them to keep going so no bugs settling in. Gotta keep the air moving.
