What is the strange history of Sum 41? Some of what I talk about:
* Sum 41’s debut “Half Hour Of Power,” first album “All Killer No Filler,” and breakthrough pop-punk songs like “Fat Lip” and “In Too Deep”
* The classic lineup of Deryck Whibley, Steveo, Cone and Dave Brownsound
* When Sum 41 went metal with “Does This Look Infected” and “Chuck,” including singles like “The Hell Song” and “We’re All To Blame”
* The departure of Dave Brownsound, “Underclass Hero” and Deryck’s marriage to Avril Lavigne
* “Screaming Bloody Murder,” the return of Dave Brownsound, “13 Voices” and “Order In Decline”

  1. I saw Sum in concert with Gob and All Time Low in the summer. Awesome high-energy performance and so much fun. I've been listening to them since Half Hour of Power, though I stopped listening to pretty much all new music for a few years in let's say 2013-17. I went back to listen to all the albums I missed since Underclass Hero and loved that they went back to their harder selves. I'd say my two favourite songs of theirs are Still Waiting and We're All to Blame, and I'm really in love with Order in Decline as a full album.

While you note In Too Deep as the 'pool video', I think you missed (or failed to mention at least) that it plays into their humour as a parody of the big diving match scene from Rodney Dangerfield's Back to School.

  2. This was a great breakdown of an amazing band. Thanks for putting in the work, man. As a slightly younger fan, I really enjoyed seeing a time lapse of Sum 41's career

  3. Awesome video. It explained my love for them in a much more descriptive way. Some days I'm in the mood for the more uplifting, pop punk style of Sum41, and then some days I listen to chuck for the darker stuff. Absolutely fantastic band.

  4. LOL a page called "The Punk Rock MBA" posting about Sum41… Bruh, they're pop. This is just sad. Change your name if you think that shit is punk.

  5. Chuck will always be one of my favorite albums ever. It's one of those albums that begs to be listened to front to back. And it's near perfect in every way.

  6. All Killer No Filler came out when I was thirteen and just moved from Alaska to Oregon, it was the best thing I’d ever heard at the time (in thirteen year old brain). But then DTLI? came out and I was floored because prior to moving all I listened to was Metallica. That’s the high water mark for me, even if that majority of the songs use the same chord progression at least once a song.

  7. 1. CHUCK
    2. Screaming Bloody Murder
    3. Does this look infected
    4. Underclass Hero
    5. All killer no filler
    6. Half hour of power
    7. Order in declne
    8. 13 voices

Don't sleep on go chuck yourself live album.

  8. Underclass Hero is actually my favourite Sum 41 album. I was a bit young for their earlier stuff but I was 13 when Underclass Hero came out and it was the soundtrack of my teen years 😂

  9. My favourite band, so so underrated. Every album slaps, they dont have one bad song. I love them with my whole heart. Ive been to their concert twice and had the best time. The interaction with crowd was amazing, whole band was smiling the whole time and the energy!! EVERYONE was jumping and singing, minimum people with phones, just having a great time. Nothing but love for these guys!
