  1. Truly amazing. A type of implant always seemed like the best solution. When a limb is lost it can't be regrown, you need a bionic limb. Likewise when the spinal cord is cut it doesn't just grow back, a physical implant is needed to replace what was lost. Trying to regrow spinal cords for the past 25 years just seemed like voodoo.

  2. finally. stuff like this was promised back in the 60's.
FDA makes tons of viable treatments prohibitively expensive, take long, and both make it less attractive to potential entrepreneurs.

  3. Awesome! That's kind of breakthroughs I'd like to see instead of new stealth jets, hypersonic missiles, doomsday mega-torpedoes and the rest of the military garbage.

  4. Science is our best chance to an optimal existence. That is why it is such a disgrace how it took a commercial turn and now it is not about making our lives better but rather make money; if the technology won't pay up then it gets thrown to the garbage regardless of the benefits it could bring to humanity.

  5. Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !"

Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam."

Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!"

Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?…"

Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!"

Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky."

Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction."

Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?

  6. I absolutely love all your content and how much it has grown since its early start. I would often have your videos playing at a Sears I worked at and customers as co workers loved it! You show all sides of technology but this is an example of how it can improve the lives of people! Keep the great work!

  7. Stimulating regrowth with this sounds probably more feasible. But theoretically might this lead to a higher fidelity two way bypass of a part of the spinal cord?

  8. Now the challenge is how to repair the cushioning intervertebral discs that become damaged or deteriorated causing pain and disability.

  9. Electric cars and Rocket ships are old techs (look it up) this right here needs more attention. These scientists need to start to mean tweeting to get recognition like other billionaires to gain recognition stat!

  10. I'm a C5 quadriplegic and I welcome any research directed towards spinal cord injury (SCI), but these implants, and others like them, are just scratching the surface. The results might look impressive to someone without a SCI, but the reality is, most of this technology is just for show, and does not yet provide any practical usefulness to a people with a SCI.
