20 thoughts on “Is This Strain Legit? This Is How Plant Genetics Are Tested! – FTS Podcast Ep.233

  1. Rob mentions getting a lot of herms. Outdoor growers out here can pop over 1,000 seeds without a herm. I wonder if it’s LED, hydro or some other variable that make indoor growers get so many herms.

  2. Because I'm a newer grower and I think I'm pretty decent I have a grow diaries at my name I'm always down and I'm straight up
Im really interested in learning as much about the plant growing in general as I can. (*I'm higher than normal so if this doesn't make sense, my bad. My friend had some fiiiire and I thought he was kidding 😂

  3. LMFAO at Chad charging for tester seeds. That shit is a service from growers supporting breeders. There’s like 1 or 2 guys i would ever test for, never had them charge me for even postage

Also. Im not sure what you guys think testing is, but im not cranking the heat up trying to test a plant lol. You’re looking for growth characteristics and expressions in a normal environment-indoor or outdoor. ANY genetics will herm if you hold a fucking heat gun up to it

  4. @watchcltv @mrgowit @pigeons420 @fromthestash
From one of the most famous autoflower breeders in the business I received a phenotype that the breeder said was a throwback to ruderalis it was the craziest looking thing I ever saw, it literally has so many trichomes it was unreal, several of the flowers had oil drops coming out of them, it was a definitely a mutant plant. Everyone I have asked to sample it was blown away and loved it. It was totally different from its sisters grown in the same environment. Mr. Grow It, it’s nearly impossible to find people you can trust to do anything.

  5. Great discussion, fellas! We've been pretty excited about the MyFloraDNA Certificate of Cultivar Identity (DNA fingerprint). We've used these for when I've dropped clones through CLTVTD. Commercial validation is a major component to what we are doing at PowrHouse. We'd love to bring you guys over to check out the farm next time you are in SacTown!

  6. My 420 fastbuds gelato auto hermed..i believe from too much heat and weird light cycles..it was outdoor in a hot summer…but I didn't think 420 fastbuds would herme since everyone talks good about them especially for new growers

  7. In all reality, if you haven't been going through MANY generations of following a cross (like more than five years) in the "classical" sense of simple sensory or chemotyping, that's the mentioned "POLLEN CHUCKING". There's a reason why F1 seeds and their more or less "uniform" plant/genetics and few phenos are popular, as compared to the same cross as F2, F# or more, where there are possiblty DOZENS of phenos.
Stressing, using light, temperatures, humidity, etc. to determine sexual stability is almost Three Stooges level breeding. All you're doing is creating a transient pheno based on enviromental sexual expression, as compared to the genotypic sex expression.
Likewise, as mentioned, sometimes the "something special" in a (imagined) "strain"… this means you may have bred the "fake horn unicorn" that was expressing some odd pheno based on a transposon activated or a "jumping gene". No, that pheno wasn't anything but a temporary reaction to an environment.
Measuring a hermie response to completely improper growing parameters isn't anything really worth testing for… that should have been done with the Parents of the cross.
Testing has to be done under UNIFORM conditions for a strain to be properly evaluated. It's not a breeder's job to grow things improperly and get those responses, such as environmental sex responses (genes of which exist on MANY chromosomes EXCEPT the highly conserved sex chromosomes)m, rather to test them 8under IDEAL conditions. It's the consumers onus to provide adequate to optimal conditions for best resluts, not the breedre's to insure that improper growing results in substandard results.
It's 2025. If you're not using genetic testing to see IF "the Right Stuff" is even in your germline to begin with, it's just "Bro Grow Pollen Chucking", anyways.
