still using it to sync my password manager database, but nothing else. It's reliable. All those new projects and features are jus annoying. Would I use it if I had to pay for it? No. Steve said it right: it's a feature.

Just last night, I was thinking of deleting my DB account. using Google's 5Tb AI plan for home, and Microsoft's 1Tb plan for work…AND HONESTLY – THINKING OF INVESTING IN MY OWN HOME NAS…UGREEN comes to mind

it’s crazy, I was one of the first users of dropbox – it handled my use case perfectly. student who’s PC crashed with all of his course work and lost his USB backup, I never wanted that to happen again, cloud backup was the way to go.
they never really go better over time and their subscriptions were quite expensive. Apple’s packages are expensive too and a lot of what is available on the market.
I have since gone with a lifetime cloud package using pCloud – I think this is the way to go as these monthly subscriptions build up over time cost wise
I still utilise Dropbox in my corporate apple app.
Other than China, it's been a globally reliable cloud solution and I see no need to replace it.
When I coded the app back in 2014, it provided a far superior solution to data syncing than iCloud.
I still use Dropbox cuz I like them the best, but their cheapest paid tier is expensive compared to the other services.
Dropped out of dropbox in 2021 or 2022 when they increased their prices. I already had Gdrive and OneDrive, so paying more to Dropbox was pointless.
I think Steve Jobs was right that Dropbox is feature (to an existing ecosystem / platform) and not a product.
I don't stand against or with the decision of not selling the company to Apple. Not selling has good points which is mainly avoiding to kill your product (or company or feature or whatever). Basically they were trying to avoid the fate of Skype (which was absorbed & then killed by Microsoft)
I still use Dropbox and pay for it. Since I'm not an Apple user, and Google drive continues to have the worst UI for managing large amounts of photos/videos/music, and I just haven't bothered to try OneDrive (I think Microsoft making my PC user directories on OneDrive by default rubbed me the wrong way, essentially forcing you to run out of storage early on rubbed me the wrong way). Dropbox just still makes sense to me. It's simple, does exactly what it says on the tin, perfectly syncs between my PCs, laptop, and phone, no bells and whistles.

I dont trust apple, MS or google to store the files of my company. Mainly, the product work simply well since i started using it 10 yeaars ago and it doesnt fuck up my data.
Before smartphones, I only used filesharing sites for storage, and saw DropBox as just another one. My first smartphone was the last Nokia, which had OneDrive integrated ofc, but my sour experience with Windows Phone left me less trusting of it. I'm more comfortable with Google Drive.
I just moved two of their paying customers to Google workspace, it's easier to integrate with other services
I'd sell for 800m in Apple stocks.
I still think it's the best in file synchronization aspect but not more.
I still use drop box but i don't really think about it. It bothers me that the Ultra Mega corporations are gobbling everything (and maybe everyone) up. They are so enormous, they are no longer accountable to anyone or any laws.
I used Dropbox until they got hacked. I used Google Drive but the file sync app is flawed corrupting the files seen it times. Work and Home PC files get corrupted
Just started paying for it 12 months ago because…… it's not Google
I was using dropbox and googledrive simultaniously. But then i started to use googledrive more, and forgot about dropbox. It's not about pricing, it was about convenience. Sharing folders with other users was easier, because almost everyone has a google account. Also the integration of google docs and spreadsheets came in handy.
Dropbox is highway robbery. Paid plans are way too expensive compared to others in the market.

You cant be blaming the guy for turning down 800M, i assume he profited more than that through the yrs. But he should've expanded beyond his obvious problem of "being a feature" before other companies tried copying his idea.
I never used Dropbox. To transfer files I just used my USB. Data security is what I'm worried about.
I still use it and think it's a fantastic service – the bonus being it's OS/platform agnostic.
