What’s in the interview?
What is the New Mexico Cannabis Chamber of Commerce?
What was the inspiration behind it?
Part of the success of New Mexico’s transition to adult-use cannabis was due to micro licenses – can you explain how this is different than California, Illinois or any other states that have quotas and equity licensing?
This allows for greater diversity in the cannabis space – was there any kind of pushback from larger operations?
What does the future look like for these micro license holders?
Is this model sustainable?
Will we see more of these licenses or fewer going forward?
Let’s talk about another issue related to “sustainability”, meaning water –
What’s the water situation in New Mexico related to agricultural water use?
New Mexico is historically an agricultural state – how does the state plan to meet the increasing water demand?
You helped get recreational laws passed in New Mexico and are heavily involved in policy at the state level.
Can you take us through the steps you (and others) had to take to make this a reality?
What cannabis policy are you focused on in New Mexico now that recreational has passed?
What’s something most New Mexico residents might not know about their state’s relatively new cannabis industry?
What were some challenges/hurdles for producers when adult-use cannabis went legal?
Was there trouble meeting demand?
How do the consumer costs compare to other legal states?
Any crazy stories from that first month?
I understand El Paso, TX and Juarez Mexico have a connection to the NM cannabis space –
Can you explain that?
What are the challenges of such a relationship?
Are there any advantages either for cultivators or consumers?
What are some recommendations you’d give to New Mexico cannabis business owners and employees to help them be as successful as possible?
What advice do you have to anyone wanting to start a licensed growing operation in New Mexico? A licensed dispensary?
What will the New Mexico cannabis industry look like 2-5 years from now?
What can other states learn from the New Mexico model?
What’s next for you, Ben?

My buddy said, out of all the places he has traveled, New Mexico had the best around. Congrats
There is absolutely zero help for Micro Grows here in New Mexico, I have 20k in lights sitting on my shop floor because we gave up after all the bullshit that Dona Ana County put us through. Don't get me started about the two year wait we had for our solar install.
Ego in New Mexico is a HUGE problem.
U need to have on the the creator of moabgenetix. The brining back roadkill skunk is an epic 2 year story. Sourcing everything from foreign to dogmatic genetics. Only to hunt the true skunk genetics after cycle after cycle to recreate roadkill skunk! Its back baby!!! Rks
Moabgenetix
Also New Mexico is an infant compared to the rest of the country…its kind of embarrassing how they operate. Unless it grows up and gets with the times it will be left behind, and the "equity" that people believe is embedded in the regulations will prove to be another joke and another scam. New Mexico is a joke, and it will be the next laughing stock of states that get fucked with recreational laws. Look in history, where has recreation marijuana ever ended successfully? Which state can say theyve successfully implemented rec? It ruins every states cannabis industry it passes in. You think NM will be different with its 8,000 BC mentality and WAY OF LIFE? You have a chance to make it successful…learn from history
Make no mistake. Acequias are about 8,000 BC old technology, losing about 8% of water alone to evaporation. Importantly to be aware of, this water is disgusting, polluted, filled with trash and feces from animals and humans. This is one of the problems with New Mexico and needs to be done away with and modernized
Not even "WHEN" the MSOs get to NM, the Microbusiness licenses as it allows (200 plants) will be left in the dust. No opportunity to compete, let alone make a dent. I think its cool to raise it to 1000 plants to protect the "mom and pops"
Outdoor is Garbo ….
Ive been a resident for 30 years born and raised of las cruces new mexico. I grow my own dwc because the dispensaries here in las cruces do not know what they are doing! You can tell they are in it for the money ONLY. There is a little over 100k people here in Las Cruces and there are over 15 dispensaries here?? None of it is worth a damn. The real terps come from the streets. After growing my own for so long and knowing what mold smells and tastes like I can honestly say half these dispensaries are selling shit with mold in it you can taste it and smell it and I dont understand how these people dont realize that. I was just told yesterday by a buddy who owns a dispensary that he tried buying a lot of medicine from another dispensary here until he saw it so I guess what we have is a legit shortage on real growers…
Why not FL?
Mmj 50% cost/ 2x GROSS WEIGHT.4 MMJ PATIENTS AND DOCTORS.
Y'all teamed up with Scotts/MiracleGrow/Hawthorne?! That's like Montsanto's cousin 🤦🏼♂️ C'mon guys!
Great episode, solid content!
Y’all need to cover other dispensary’s in New Mexico like places in las cruces abq is overrated.
This was fantastic – thank you – I think NM rec and medical market is one of the best in the country thanks to folks like Ben.
Mr. Lewinger is the man. He's affecting policy that makes sense for the industry. Mad respect.
Great interview Ben!
dude said "implemental" LOLOL
Good stuff
New mexico has it rough, their neighbor to the north, one state, has one of, IF NOT THE BEST Cannabis market ever created.. from quality, to prices, rules.. I like it, They are a shinning star. Espically for quality. and testing, enforcement. Even from day one they were good. I always saw tons of new mexico plates outside dispensaries when I would go once or twice a year. Weed was better in colorado than the best I had in the black market, and I had some good stuff in the black market. Super Farms in Denver had some of the best. Berkel, and super lemon haze, Mmmmm..
yeah and the cheap bud in oklahoma, isn't worth smoking, it's so bad, the smell of the burnt marijuana smells more like tobacco, or some nasty other weed than it does marijuana. You dont get high from it, barley. But it is all thats around, so what are people supposed to do, not everyone can grow. and we have choice of bad cheap weed, expensive weed, that ALWAYS falls short, or no weed. Sigh… I know i complain about it alot, but you guy's try being trapped in an OCEAN of 300 dollar pounds, like he said.. Sigh. 🙁
advise for new mexico, Dont make mistakes oklahoma did. Make it cheap enough to get into the industry, but dont do limitless growers, dispos, open.. in oklahoma, we made it legal to smoke anywhere pretty much, 2,000$ for growers liscense, however it led to Almost nothing but bad quality bud. Really, I would try to come up with some laws, or rules that support the growers who are growing good bud. that needs to be the focus. There is no point ot grow bad bud when it is legal now and you dont have to hide anymore. Or dont let people get a growers liscense unless they can pass a basic knowledge test on the plant, and growing, things to do , or not do. That would really help combat the bad and or unsafe weed out there.
