Slayer’s Kerry King felt angry about the band’s decision to retire, given that many of his childhood heroes were still performing live. The Slayer legend opened up about their retirement in a recent interview with Metal Hammer.

They went out as an inferior covers band with a drummer who utterly destroyed their usually tight sound. Slayer died in 2013 with Hanneman & Lombardo.
In retrospect retiring when they did was a HORRIBLE decision. They called it quits literally months before the entire music touring industry got shut down for two years. They would've had a nice break from touring and been able to recharge their batteries. They could be out there kicking ass right now with a renewed fire instead of sitting at home.
Of course you can't predict a pandemic (unless you're Bill Gates 😉), but it does beg the question of why retire instead of just taking a break? There aren't any newer big name metal acts coming up to take their spot.
Hell, Pantera just "reunited" and half their band is dead. The legacy acts are the only ones left who can draw a dime these days, and Slayer pissed all that money away. STUPID
I absolutely will miss seeing Slayer live, but as the old adage goes: "Always leave them wanting more".
I thought Phil from pantera was gonna sing??? From Iran
I can think of several bands that would gladly hire Kerry King to play with them
They retired back in 1990
Kerry King is a crabby batch
kerry king is garbage and so is slayer please STAY retired
Their last couple of albums sucked.
The Roman Catholic Tom, always , ALWAYS trying to get that victim olympic gold medal.
graspop belgium
What if, in some years, life brought back Kerry and Dave together, and after a Tom decline they decide to go with the name, record and tour back with another singer/bassist??? Would that be legit???😮
Yeah, I wasn’t too happy about it either (I never got to see them).
He needs to start his own band!
In hind sight it was a huge mistake to retire Slayer. Dave Mustaine has no voice anymore and James Hetfield's playing is rapidly deteriorating. Slayer could've been THE thrash band for couple of years before retiring but alas.
id pay to see if they only had a bucket for a drum and one hello kitty guitar !! just saying, you ask
Dave Lombardo
He will form a gen2 type of slayer band.
It is because of goddamned catholic Tom Araya 😅
They had terrible management who seemed to want to keep them miserable. I see other artists doing interviews with journalists while going different places in the cities they're in, but Slayer's management keep them in hotels instead. Did Araya even consider he could arrange for journalists to meet him somewhere else? Did his management 'explain' that it couldn't be done for some bogus reason?
Here’s the thing, as a band you have to work as a team. When one guy is done, as Tom was, you need to respect that. Nothing is stopping Kerry from doing it more, just in a different way. I’d love to see him keep making and playing music. But I can respect Tom wanting to hang up the hat.
Its the exact setup as other bands (band members sayin blah blah blah etc) and what do you know ??
In a few months it will be the 'Final Trip Through HELL' Slayer tour or something of that sort.. 👹
Well kerry king you shouldn't have become such a woke little B and Tom would still be playing for Slayer
Kerry you guys are the absolute Sickest band Ever it sure would be kick ass if Tom had a change of heart
Yes definitely freaking yes
I mean c´mon,METALLICA´s still around with a new album coming, even the freakin´ROLLING STONES
(in their 80´s!)go on tour again,WTF…!!!🤣🤣🤣
KERRY … COME BACK
YOU MUST PLAY FOR EVER
AS THE ROLLING STONES
AND AC DC
⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️
I'm glad SLAYER hung it up before they turned into Metallica!
They'll tour again
Cry baby 👶
If Kerry King misses playing live and doing Slayer, that's bittersweet…but he should have treated Lombardo better as a founding member of the line-up that is historical and will live on forever. In reality, people don't realize how fragile relationships are and life is in general. Jeff Hanneman passing away illustrates that. I feel sorry for Kerry in a way, but he always seemed like he was in his own world throughout the years and didn't really understand that a band is made up of more people than just himself.
If Kerry still has gas in the tank then get 3-5 guys and start a new project and go out on tour or join a band that needs a guitarist. Metal cruises are popular these days, sail around the Caribbean and play…
Bc Replentless wasn't the album to go out on..CHRIST ILLUSION WAS BETTER .
At our age I agree with retiring if you can. If you have the money to. I don’t have the energy that I had for decades. 60 isn’t 40😢
