I decided to talk to people on the streets of Denmark as a gecko. It is apparently the happiest country in the world.
Those people include a local on a scavenger hunt to find a weird guy, an American who is disappointed in European perceptions of the US, a guy practicing polyamory, a trusted dentist, two friends who teach me Danish slang, and some other people who happened to be there too.

The Nordics are much better for social mobility than the US, and have a large middle class.
So if that is the American Dream, and not just getting filthy rich at the expense of everyone else, then it's more alive here.
