Read Time:1 Minute, 7 Second

After spilling BBQ sauce on myself, I took to the streets of Auckland, New Zealand to talk to people as a gecko.

Those people include a social worker who teaches other people how to be good social workers, an optimistic musician, a pizza-bartender who reflects on his financial habits, an American transplant who questions the concept of happiness, and a tourism student who is obsessed with foreign currencies.

35 thoughts on “being a gecko in New Zealand

  1. Lyle finally figuring out that he"s the gecko undergoing human therapy is a golden moment! You know you help a lot of people on the way too. NZ looks as chill as we imagine it to be. Bryan, you are a cool dude.

  2. guy 3/ "american transplant" left a real impression, seems like a real wise and well meaning dude with a breadth of interesting life experience. i feel like i couldve listened to a whole episode with them. big fan of the term "tall poppy syndrome" too lol, thats a new one for the books

  3. I knew this was going to be great, new zealand is a magnificent place with many kinds of people. And by many kinds i mean kinds of people who seem to live life honestly as it can be lived if that makes sense. My middle school history teacher was a kiwi and he was just so much more remarkable than a middle school teacher ought to be. I also met a New zealander named Nigel up towards Lake Tahoe a couple summers before the pandemic, he was vacationing with his wife and kids and he was such an easygoing and welcoming man to meet. New Zealand has such a wild generation of college kids right now that party harder than any US campus ive seen. There was a youtube channel did this amateur documentary i saw abourt a party town where the kids drank and partied everynight and it was so wild they literally just thrashed the town everynight it was like lord of the flies decided to turn up instead of hunting Piggy๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

  4. But like, why did this video hit so different ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ itโ€™s raw. People trust the gecko and truly talk about themselves. And gecko is the perfect medium to take away that awkwardness and judgement while people live in the moment
