48 thoughts on “Why Trucks Keep Getting Bigger

  1. Trucks are seen as a “luxury” vehicle nowadays most trucks don’t even get used as a truck anymore and really aren’t built to be used as such either. They’re a status for fragile ego guys. The percentage of modern trucks that haven’t been taken off of pavement is significantly higher than those that haven’t been off road at least once.

  2. First the light bulb then refrigerators then trucks. Planed obsolescence is all part of the plan these days. these engines are designed to break after the warranty. I want a Toyota Hilux

  3. I get that you have to soften the blow of 40,000 americans being killed (per year), but laughing about kids being run over feels odd. There's also one big thing you missed about why trucks are bigger. The american mindset and subsequent lack of regulations allows for pretty much everything to become an arms race. Cars have gotten bigger because it makes the people inside the vehicle safer at the expense of the safety of anything outside the vehicle. So, everyone gets a bigger and bigger vehicle, because there is no care for the whole in america—solely the individual. It's the same thing with guns. No one, or very few, would make society safer. That's just a fact. But because they convince yout that you and your family won't be safe without one, people stockpile guns for the sake of safety, making the whole unsafe. America and its citizens kill themselves at the altar of marketing machines that make them less safe, and call it freedom.

  4. God damn I truly feel like I was cheated out of the adult life of my dreams. Housing market is ass, modern cars are ass, modern media is ass, everything fucking sucks. I’d be stoked if they brought back a small mighty pickup like that Toyota again, but the smallest you can get is a Tacoma and even that is too fucking big to be practical in most instances.

  5. Those trucks in the beginning ar not and never were the same class of vehicles. You can put a heavy load in a light pickup truck, but the courts will rip you a new ass if that causes an accident.

  6. I don't think we can truly put "pedestrians killed" to the big trucks completely.. If you wanna be honest why don't you mention the fact that NOBODY WILL PUT THEIR GOT DAMN PHONE DOWN

  7. The REAL reason why modern trucks are so big? TOW RATINGS! Today's 1/2 ton pickups tow more than what the 3/4 ton trucks did back in the 80's. Throw in the standardized test of towing (J2807) and the engines need a larger radiator to properly cool the engine under load. The entire sized of the truck is based on the size of the radiator and the air flow it needs.

  8. Bingo. the biggest con ever pulled on the American people is convincing them they need these oversized 60k tonka trucks. All I need is a little Ford S-10 long bed

which ACTAULLY has a bigger bed than many of these

    giant stupid gas hog trucks.

  9. Trucks on the road that aren't being worked look ridiculous. I drive my truck to the store because I only have a parking spot for 1 vehicle. I'm a landscaper and haul all kinds of tools. I love the cargo room in my full-sized truck but I've also never towed anything with it and the v8 Hemis a big waste of gas. I want a mid-size truck with a smaller engine next time but i love dodge ram.

  10. Ford Maverick has a nice size but its only made crew cab. maybe a single cab with a 2.5 or a V6 NA engine and RWD should be the 2025 official work truck.
    Toyota made this with Champ

  11. F150 cost NEW in 1979 between $6K (Base) and $11K ( Loaded). F150 cost currently $42,595.00( Base) at Bob Utter Ford in Sherman, TX. Add some phat tires and a back seat… mucho profit to be made, for the mfr. The simple work truck of years gone by has become WAY too complicated ( fragile & unreliable ) for actual hard ( work) use.
BTW: I have a 1997 Nissan hardbody 2X4, for sale. 165K miles, nearly mint. I'm retired ( truck driver) and it wont tow my new ( 2nd hand ) fishing boat, up the boat ramp.

  12. Sadly, people keep getting fatter, so they need more space. Have you ever noticed at restaurants if you sit at a booth that the bench seats are way away from the tables now. My wife and I went out to eat the other night, and we had to sit on the edge of the bench seats to reach the table. There were no regular table and chairs there and all the booth seating was the same. You can fit three normal sized people between the seat and table. it's ridiculous.

  13. I watched a guy drive up on another guy's flatdeck trailer at a red light, because he didn't see the trailer in his Silverado 3500hd. Proved the point of why I bought a 2018 Tahoe instead of a 2025.

  14. Ya too big and expensive.
I don't even see anyone making a single cab and tow wheel drive anymore.
I really don't need more than 2 doors and I never owned a 4wdr before.
But thats all they make now crew can and 4wdr.

I also like to have a full size box or larger, they once made trucks with 9 foot boxes, that would be a very nice option again for guys like me that need to carry things to the cottage.

  15. For years I've been wondering why the heck pickup trucks are getting bigger and bigger. And this is the very first video I'm watching regarding this.
Btw, 80's and 90's pickup trucks look way better to me, and seems a lot more reliable too.
