Apple has been struggling to fix Siri since it’s inception in 2011, but today they find themselves even further behind. The solution? Apple intelligence but that didn’t pan out as expected. The Californian company has now resorted to using Google’s Gemini to solve their AI woes. In this episode we explore what this means for Apple, the wider AI industry and consumers.

32 thoughts on “Why Apple Just Gave Up on AI

  1. My Pixel 10 Pro offers call screening and talks on my behalf when I get calls from unknown numbers (mostly car dealers since I am searching for a car). This feature alone is impactful enough for me to own this phone.

  2. For me when it comes to phones, its value to performance and specs and then software. So yeah apple doesn't cross my mind at all when it comes to those categories and then AI comes in last for me. So yeah for me it will always be android

  3. Apple's inability to make Siri a competitive AI assistant led me to explore Google Pixel, which I absolutely loved. The only reason I ended up parting ways with the Pixel is that I am too deep in the Apple ecosystem, and two phones is not an option for me personally. So, for now, Apple won. However, I am keeping my options open. Perhaps partnering with Google is a positive step in the right direction as they have been crushing it. Time will tell.

  4. I upgraded from a 13 pro to an air this year. Iโ€™m very happy. I didnโ€™t care whether Siri would be upgraded to real AI. Apple isnโ€™t having any trouble selling phones. I think AI on phones isnโ€™t as important as many people think it should be.

  5. I don't appreciate Samsung switching the power button to become an AI button. I press it just to tell Gemini to shut down. Once I was on a plane without internet, and it took me 15 minutes to figure out how to turn off the phone. I am used to having a power button…

  6. The only reason apple has so much wealth, it's not from releasing good products or providing good customer support, it's from blatant overpriced garbage that's years behind the competition, and then blame it on the end user when customer support fails.

  7. This is a tad embarrassing for CF ๐Ÿ˜‚ People that think AI is just Siri ๐Ÿ˜‚ the Google move lets them leverage Google skills for chat bot apps and keep Apple focused on Silicon, Hardware, and the rest of their mega-ecosystem platform that makes people happy and them ungodly amounts of money ๐Ÿ’ฐcโ€™mon Cold Fusion, go deeper ๐Ÿคฏ ๐Ÿค™๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿงฎ

  8. The reason those 5 companies spend so much is not just about the "hardware" and "OS". It's a gamble, that with enough breakthroughs, they will be able to produce the be-all end-all device of sorts (hardware and OS). There would be no need for any "apps", since the device/OS would be all you need. Think super intelligence. If you have super intelligence, what would be the point of "apps" from third party developers/companies? In the end there's really only one "app" that matters, the super intelligence's "OS".

  9. Personally, I don't use Gemini on my phone on the regular. But the one I need to say something to my phone across the room, it just understands and does the thing well. A great feature to have in my opinion.

  10. Yeah Apple will be fine.. A bit frustrating that they overpromised, but I wouldn't trust any other player on the market with access to my mails and notes the rest of my system.. So, I'll just have to wait it out for Apple to build the best there is, as they have done again and again in the past.. One thing in particular I am very impatient for is context aware text completion.. It's so annoying that it proposes words that do not fit the phrase you're typing at all.. The fix for that can't come soon enough..
