Read Time:53 Second

A caller experiences an episode of existential dread after taking some time off work, and shares their perspective on romance, figuring shit out, and just being alive in 2025. He called at a time that I was also experiencing existential dread so we got pretty into it. He was a good guy.

The bread has gone bad. I am a gecko.

  1. This guy is so right about online dating making love about idealization and less about acceptance. I think that holds true when it comes to the access to millions of people on apps like Instagram. When there's always someone better looking, more successful, perhaps more aligned with your interests, etc. at your fingertips, what incentive is there to accept the person in front of you, flaws and all?

  2. I hate the idea of fast online dating hookups, its like when I was too young to get into bars and had a fake ID living the dirtbag lifestyle, ed hardy shirts, gtl'ing. I actually prefer taking it slow and getting to know someone and actually forming some sort of connection, im too old to still be doing casual hookups I think ill just focus on myself for now…

Also Reddit is terrible, I only went on reddit when I was at my lowest in life. People are overly negative and have really weird views while being weirdly combative its like a mental illness simulator.

  3. to the fist caller it sounds like your answer is to get involved in your local political community. Most Marxists and Socialists I have known meet most of their partners and friends at protests.

  4. I'm double commenting rn, that's how much I enjoyed this video. Lyle, it's nice to see you vulnerable. We love it. We see ourselves in your honesty and your spiraling and your directionless direction. Keep it up. Mo was a gift of a caller. It was nice to hear you both enjoying talking like that 💐 We all out here doing our best and it is nice to know others can feel exactly as we do, when sometimes it can be easy to feel alone

  5. Its actually insane you posted this episode .. i just moved from my ex’s house recently after moving states to be with him and i had gotten burdened with insane existential dread upon moving in and being lonely again

  6. Literally CHEERED out LOUD at 21 minutes. HOLD THAT LOVE SACRED HOMIE. I am out here in the SAME BOAT and dating apps feel shallow and soulless. I want to fall in love slowly. I want to fall in love in person, not with the idea of somebody, a carefully curated idea they present on their profiles. I absolutely love this dialogue and this caller is my favorite thus far. HANDS OFF CAPITALISM WE OUT HERE IN THE STREETS READY TO LOVE 💗

  7. 43:28 It’s a good question why the “profound truths” feel cliche. I see it as a result that they are presented separately from the universal compassion present in the spiritual practices they’re derived from.

  8. edit: oh its literally this call. wild you uploaded less than 10 minutes before its something I went to look for
Lyle, really recently, maybe from the same night of recording this new upload you had a caller who you bonded with as he asked you about your life, and he laid out idea of how if you try to sit and think your perfect path forward in life, and not get started until you figure it out you will get no where, and you talked about feeling lost yourself, and you guys bonded over the idea of just trying to take action and hope for the best. I hope you upload that caller conversation because it was really nice, and that is a clip I definitely would come back to as I think I need the same life lesson
