BP may be a household name, but their track record for safety is one of the worst in the oil and gas industry. Unfortunately, this has led to many needless deaths and ecological damage that’s mind-boggling to comprehend. Where did it all go wrong? In this episode we explore.

  1. Thanks for the feedback regarding my mention of 'Gulf of America'. It was done with the purpose of being tongue in cheek which I now see has clearly missed the mark.

I decided to re-upload the video without that part.

  2. In this age of AI, we often hear about the paperclip maximiser; a machine programmed to optimise paperclip production at all cost. Eventually, it causes people to go extinct because they could hinder paperclip production. Newsflash: we don't need AI, or any other stupid machine. We already have the "profit maximiser" that will eventually drive us to extinction, because, according to Milton Friedman: "the business of business is business", meaning: corporations will always maximise for profit, while ignoring everyone else. And that makes our system as dumb as the paperclip maximiser.

  3. 01:45 How? Make shareholders happy. That's the evil of all stock traded companies and the evil of a lot of bad things in the world.
Stock traded companies will do ANYTHING they need to make their shareholders happy, even if it means to "employ slaves and forced labourers" as the not so distant german past shows, ESPECIALLY the big ones like Apple, Microsoft, Google, Nvidia, Meta etc. They are pure evil.
At the end of the day all of those CEOs don't care anyway. They made a lot of people rich and they are very rich themselves. All these people know is a digital number on their bank accounts, because it represents their self worth as a human beeing.

  4. Think about it. A person can go to prison for dumping a mattress in a state park for illegal dumping. Meanwhile, BP spilled oil in the gulf due to neglect………….and………..well you know.

  5. As a current bp employee, bps on the same track for an incident at its whiting refinery, look at all the incidents and events we've had in the past few years. We still have atmospheric RVs on some of the highest h2s streams in the whole refinery. And bp us trying to cut costs drastically right now, all thought top heavy throughout management.they eliminated lots of jobs and are now going after the unions maintenance jobs. The infrastructure here is garbage
