We got our hands on synthetic gasoline made out of nothing but water and air. Is this “eFuel” stuff legit, and will it make its way into your gas tank one day?

  1. i don't think it's carbon neutral if all it does is just cycle the pollution in the air. and that's still a finite resource as the planet slowly filters it out of the air over time.

  2. CO2 is thermodynamically aka in reality the final destination for Carbon and H2O in reality the final destination for Hydrogen (when you are on earth). Reversing this takes a lot lot of energy. And you need a lot of CO2 as we get the C only from CO2 and we need a lot of C as this is most of the mass in the fuel. Sadly you can not do much with the O2 of the CO2.

  3. I know it should happen, and we all know, atleast those of us who haven't turned off our mind for the sake of what is and the reality tjat we seem doomed toknow that gas emissions are going to slowly but surly kill us, its the afdiction that we will kill our environment and everything weve ever knonw for. But as muxh as the spirit is optimistic this is one of the many things that seem like it will never happen. Take Russia for example, right now with gas and petroleum being Russias biggest exporter what they sell to carry on this war and attack on Ukrainian civilians and civil society. Europe has EVERY SINGLE RESON to mass produce an alternative for gas. But there is not even a word about it, put it simply its and our rilience for gas Russian and otherwise looks like it will doom us in more ways then one. But still outside a few insignificant ways it seems we are largly addicted to oil, till death do us part.

  4. So today 40, but what people always dismiss is how we humans find a way.
So I hope Porsche keeps it up. Because they want us to drive. They would love us all to drive a Porsche or other cars that make their look good. Jokes aside , they are onto something.

  5. I wonder if they could get the size and cost of production down enough to build these things all over like gas stations, creating enough for local demand. Could eliminate the entire need for transport by making it on location. We already have water infrastructure, and we have electrical grids for the electrolysis and carbon capture… Would be sweet if they could find a way to run them like that and never again need to drill, and be truly carbon neutral.

In certain applications, gas is king. Nothing beats its energy density as a fuel source. Batteries are heavy af, making them not feasible for flight and super heavy loads. It’s not going anywhere anytime soon.

If it’s only $40/gal at that small a scale, you could easily get the price down in line with legacy fuel prices before too long. This has me mad hopeful!

  6. We’d already be there in tech by now but Electric cars are incentivized because Lithium mining industry is a huge cash cow, and lithium batteries are inherently flawed, overload asphalt with their weight, and need replacing faster than the standard ICE. Big reason the US is in Ukraine is because it has huge potential as a lithium ore deposit.Same reason the Soviets wanted Afghanistan. Land And Resources… And the civvies die for the mega rich. Cool video!!!

  7. Remember the guy who made it able to do this INSIDE the vehicle itself with just water? Got killed for it, because they had to figure out how to make something like this, so they can pack it up and sell it to people after a patented process.
I mean this is awesome, don't get me wrong, but let's not forget the Capitalist market behind this.

  8. E fuel, you know when you accept 1/10 the efficiency because man childs think that their car is a noise maker and not transportation. Also, co2 is a greenhouse gas, not really an ozone depletion gas. Ozone is healing because adults decided to deal with it.

  9. I'm glad people are at least hopeful about this but you can't break the rules of thermodynamics. You can optimize the process but you'll never get even close to the price of regular gas, unless electricity gets cheaper.

  10. It's far more efficient to do this than makeing new electric cars, the emissions from making a new cars, is off set by using e fuel taken from the atmosphere and energy from renewabls to keep older vehicles running indefinitely.

  11. With the modern production methods and technology for new engines, I will LOVE to see what companies make without all the useless emissions nonsense that are currently required.

  12. eFuel = dumb fuel. It costs 10 joules of electricity to produce 1 joule of eFuel. R&D goal is to bring it down to 2:1 in perhaps 10 years. Why don't you just drive an eV and save all that extra electricity ? These 911's are finished.

  13. I say use the e-fuel in diesel form to power the ocean liners and tanker trucks that will transport the gasoline version of e-fuel. Lower the cost of transportation by using wind from the Rockies in Colorado to power windmills and collect carbon dioxide from Denver.

  14. So if we can make electric from renewables you can make the fuel. They're doing this in Scotland too. So I can run my 67 Chevy and keep the environment clean.. sweet.
