If you are not topping your plants then atleast make sure to remove larf lol
You said it best. The plant knows best what to do… especially when topped… wtf bro…
I get higher yields off a plant bent sideways than a topped plant. 2 plants same age, 1 bent over vs topped plant, the bent plant has a larger footprint and more bud sights. I also aggressively scrog and find topped plants stem like to split like a wishbone. Got 1 right now duct taped to save it lol
😂😂😂😂😂
I never top my plants. And they still become Beasts.
Just try both and see.
love the controversy. keep it up. i don’t believe in topping autos anymore, or really any training.
let the plant do its thing, let it grow. exactly.
This is the dumbest shit I think I’ve heard
I know it's crazy but I grow cannabis to smoke… not to say 'look how big my flower is'. But to each their own
No he's absolutely right 👍,,less time and better bud quality,
I've also found not topping is way better I've gotten bigger and more dense buds, low stress training and minimal trimming for airflow and bud growth.
I was doing LST back in the early 1980s mostly bc i didn't like damaging the plant & believed i got better results laying it over at about 4 weeks or so.
I believe it’s genetics that was causing issues some cultivars are ok sum don’t like it in my opinion depending on genetics ❤🎉
Yeah not topping cause your only vegging for 14 days plant it what 10-14 inch tall
Whobthe fuck is topping in the flower stage anyway? Thats dumb as fuck and enough to hear to know theyre full of shit and dont know what they're talking about!
I top mine one time
I think people are forgetting that Mike is an indoor cultivator with thousands of plants. Yeah, if you have 6 plants outdoors, then topping is going to be beneficial for you. If you're working on a 63 day flower cycle with a 14 day veg indoors, speed is important and topping definitely slows growth. He also talks about how Uniformity is the reason he stopped topping, and when you are steering thousands of plants, consistency and uniformity is huge. "Those branches will get to the top"; would you rather have two really big branches, or eight big branches? For larger-scale, indoor cultivators, you would rather have eight big branches…
I'm 56 and may or may not have started growing in the swamps of Florida in the 1980's 1990's …now with a cultivation license I grow indoors and have been for a few years. I've tried topping and not topping many times indoors and out. I currently do not top. The reason is this …the top main cola is the cream of the crop so to speak. It ALWAYS has been in my experience. I can get a slighty bigger yield by topping and training…but for me personally…letting it do it's thing naturally always gives me my prized flower on top. Topping a plant eliminates that top. If your just out for a bigger yield …hey…whatever works for you if topping is your thing. I only grow for personal medical reasons and everyone that's seen my plants are in awe. I grow in my own blend of living organic soil and it takes me a couple weeks longer to go from seed to harvest than going hydroponics…but the reward is an undeniably better taste and smelling flower. Good luck and happy growing 😊 !
Topped all 3 of my outdoor sativas above the 8th node. Now tey are all about 7 feet tall and 5-6 feet in diameter and just started flowering. Yeah I'll continue doing that.
I had a good one going and a week before I was about to take it somehow while I was at work my light that was hanging somehow fell from the ceiling fell just right and split the plant down the middle.
I top to release the auxins hormone to make sure that the side shoots become main shots if you don't top i don't care how much light reaches the lower branches they will not become main colas.
Pony tail days ten through 15 for a couple hrs each day bam bush easy no stress
Laziest shit I ever heard. Top that shit all day redirect the energy. Fucking dumb.
One big bud that might have mold in it or a bunch of nice medium buds , I'll keed topping my plants
Yeah, im not stopping.
Why not jus top with crop steering and do sum LST, HST, and trellis ur plants to get better light penetration the only thing your losing is time for the plant to catch up with its recovery and vegging and flowering time that’s why a lot of industry grows use sea of green method with no topping or fimming or very little, I gotta disagree with the bud size statement he made you’ll still be able to Main line multiple fat heads just like Maine colas, i just would never top in flower it would be too late for its growth cycle after the plant starts to show pistols I just let it do it’s thing but during veg indoor grows with 18 hours of light i choose the length of the plant I’m wanting to achieve with filling a canopy 15 hour light cycle for out doors during early June, July in mass I still top crazy it’s all about preference and picking what works for you on the project your doing
i was just saying to my buddies that the absolute best , biggest, and prettiest buds were all from un topped plants..
my g13 buds look amazing for a christmas tree, unlike the g13 i topped, buds are small, larfy, and not pretty…
there is a reason why tents are 7 feet tall..
I appreciate the knowledge shared here. I assumed that Mike was talking about not topping in veg, but the last statement is "I don't think I will ever top again a plant in flower." Was the whole conversation about topping in flower?
I top some outdoor plants just to get em more bushy but my indoor I don't do anything than defoliate and maybe some lst clips if I'm trying to steer a branch a certain way usually upwards to save lateral room
If youre going after breeding and quality genetics, why top?…. makes sense to only top if you're going for quantity… 😅
all due respect for anyone puttin the time in to observe, and there will always be differences in what is experienced. the plant knowing what it is supposed to do is regenerate by passing on the next gen. of itself by seeding. all due respect but toppin usually, not always but usually if done proper will develop very closely to the same to the same if you done leave part of the topped stem.
Misinformation
I do the same , if you need the side branches to catch up a bit just keep taking the fan leaves of the main cola and that will slow it down a little , then bend the side branches out to let the new growth fill in the center top, its a great method
Dont trust this man he is talking about cutting in the flowering phase at the end… so all the words spoken in the beginning are waste.
Decades ago, I used to grow a mix of sativas and indicas. I noticed on (some) sativas varied greatly in potency from the top colas to the bottom ones, and I stopped topping them. I never noticed that on any indicas, though. But they also never needed it in my 7" height grow area.
