31 thoughts on “The Evolution of Cannonball Tech

  1. i have driven across the continent 31 times. I've never done a cannonball run, but I did drive from San Diego to Ulster County NY in 47 hours once. I had no idea how close that was to a cannonball run time. I think i need to make an attempt.

  2. Police probably does not "do some math" to figure out your speed. They use tachymeter which is feature on most stopwatches and chronographs like famous Rolex Daytona.

  3. Good Lord, is this business of everyone belonging to a "community" these days the real-world version of having to set up an account on a random website just to buy a pack of socks or a set of tires? "Just doing stuff" is obsolete now – apparently, you're supposed to be a member of "a community."

    Fuck that noise, man.

  4. @7:45 he talks about not being able to run his (I assume its Waze?) App on his computer because its not a Windows app.. this guy clearly has some intelligence.. im just curious why an emulator or even running this whole she-bang in Linux wasnt done or wasnt thought of. I can see GPS being a little wonky to get working.. but ive gotta think someone has already made some pretty good tooling in Linux to tackle some of these problems.

    Just thinking out loud

  5. Very cool and informative video. My two cents, hope this helps:
In California vs Johnson 1972 approx. Police can not use a time over distance formula to issue a speeding violation. It’s known as a speed trap. If in CA you see an area marked for Patrolled by Aircraft, they are using visual estimation to issue you a citation. There’s too much case law and info to list here. All this varies from state to state. Godspeed. 😎

  6. Interesting – I’m guessing an overwatch position would be an accessory to all moving infractions by the group? (I’m no legal expert, and for all I know, he’s doing this out of another country…). Seems like this would be better served by a 2 person team, so they can each get a couple naps in to be as alert as possible. And overlap during busy times so you can multi-task (talk to multiple teams, etc).

  7. I've been driving around 120 mph to 140 mph for almost 30 years and have never got a speeding ticket. It might be because I'm deaf, very observant, and I can see super far and very well at night. I can spot a cop car about a mile down the road at night. I've flown past cop cars at faster than highway speed but since I never ever hit my brakes (which is an admission to the cop that you were flying) which is why they never chase me down. Also, keep in mind that the radar the cops use doesn't tell them which car is speeding, it only tells them a car was speeding so you can blend in with other cars and that's another reason never to hit your brakes when going fast just coast (or if you have an older car with a hand emergency brake you can use that as well since that won't light up your tail lights) and when they see you're not hitting your brakes and you are now at nominal speed (from coasting to lower speed), they leave you alone. I have a billion tips for avoiding cops or getting pulled over that is without all the fancy gears. My brother and I have done a lot of Rallys but I really want to do a Cannonball run before hanging up my high-speed driving for good.
