  1. I remember Pantry Pride! While growing up they were all that! Long before Wal Mart came to town. Another one was Big Star. This felt more like a designer store than grocery.
This company was really clean & dare I say felt stylish. It was very pretty. I vaguely remember it. They shit down in mid 70's I think.🤔

This was when bar codes were just starting to show up..

Another store I remember was Pic N save.. They were the wal Mart of their day. They had everything! Howo, I font think they ever had a car venter. Although, tgey did have a full done in cafeteria. That eas close in mud 80's begore the entite compsny eent bank rupt – closed. 😭

  2. IGA, Farmer Jack and American Foodliner are the stores we had when I was a young child in the 1990s. When I was a baby living in Hinesville GA mom said they had a Piggly Wiggly, I went on vacation to visit my hometown in September 2019 for my 30th birthday and the store was still there.

  3. We have "Coles" supermarkets here in Australia 🇦🇺 its one of the two biggest supermarkets here and been around for decades and growing stronger with each passing year. The other of the two is Woolworths. Both great supermarkets.

  4. 07:15 Over a decade later, and I finally learn how and why I was able to earn Tesco Clubcard points when shopping at certain convenience stores whilst visiting the United States… 🏪🇬🇧😉

  5. I was born and have lived in and around Detroit my entire life. These Detroit grocery chains that I grew up with now are out of business. Wrigley, Farmer Jack, Chatham, Great Scott and Food Fair. When Meijer started to expand from Grand Rapids, Michigan and opened stores in the Detroit area, these stores that I mentioned, slowly but surely, started to go out of business. It was almost a domino effect. Meijer dominates the Detroit grocery super markets. Kroger is the only old line national grocery chain that has survived. Kroger and Walmart are Mejer's chief competitors in the Detroit area. Meijer now has stores in ten states.

  6. When mom dressed up to get ready to go to the store, we would go to "Rosco Tempo", "Pantry", "Lucky" or "Farmers Market"….I always liked going to Lucky because there was a Chinese food restaurant next door with direct entry and Mom would buy some chicken fried rice on the way out ….. love those memories

  7. When I was a child in Southern California our local store, located right across the street from the apartments we lived in was a Market Basket supermarket. It's gone now. I still remember the name of our favorite cashier at that store. Her name was Sarah.

  8. I grew up on the San Francisco peninsula. We used to have a bunch of smaller regional chains. Besides Alpha Beta, we had Cala Foods & QFI (which were both converted to Bell Markets), Petrini's, Nob Hills Foods (there's still one left). Now Safeway dominates the entire region, with a smattering of Lucky stores here and there.

  9. I don't think you mentioned it but, farmer jack is one I remember as a kid and a baby. My mom would do her grocery shopping there and I remember looking forward to going with her, because I would look at the crabs that they had in an aquarium for people t buy.
