My mom (who passed in 2016) used to work at the Hecht's Warehouse in DC from the 70s to early 00's. When the store was in the mall we were in the department store every weekend. So mamy memories 😢
I miss Circuit City! Great place for appliances and electronics… and they would bargain with you!😊
When in High School I worked at a Zayre store. It was like Walmart, but not nearly so fancy. 😄
Woolco…offshoot of Woolworth. Benjamin Franklin's and yellow Front.
Alexanders.
This one particular Woolworth in Manhattan, had the best fried chicken ever! It's been a minute, so I can't remember exactly where in the city it was located.
I wish Walmart was on the list
Evans catalog store.
Bell catalog store.

Technology ruined this world!!
😢
I do miss Sears, Montgomery Wards, Broadway, which later became May Company, and others that dominated shopping malls.
I remember Montgomery wards my parents used to take me shopping there.
Man I remember going to circuit city almost every weekend with my dad as he worked as a IT. Loved those weekends even tho I’d go empty handed most of the times, just being there was fun
It is interesting how most of these stores started in northern states before air conditioning became prevalent in the south. I guess most Americans back then lived up north because the summer heat in the south was too brutal without air conditioning. It would be interesting to find out how many new chain stores were created in the southern United States from the mid 1970s to today. Air conditioning has virtually revolutionized the south.
I remember Hill's and Kmart and AMES 😊
