“Well, my degree is in quantitative economics and statistical analysis. I feel I’m qualified to run this simple calculation.”. Game, set, match. Loved it.
Anyone know what the insurance company ended up paying after court costs etc just paying what the car was worth from the start?
Got a feeling they ended up paying more than just paying up.
Had a guy sideswipe me in my '02 honda. MAPFRE tried to say it wasn't worth anything and tried to deny the claim. Got a separate appraisal, complained for 2 months, and got the value of the vehicle in the end
Edit: MAPFRE was the insurance company of the guy who hit me
As an owner of a Old gen 9-3 i would just like to say thank you for the awareness you have brough to our community! we are a small but loyal group of fans! and they are truly amazing cars!
I want to know what insurance company this was.
I dealt with this type of situation when my R32 GTR was hit shortly after they were allowed to be imported into the country. Insurance company was only willing to pay out based on the value of the GTS since no GTRs had been written off since the ability to import. I did not get the value of the car and to this day I absolutely hate the insurance company and regret the whole situation. I was paid out about 30% of the value of the car even though I had an appraisal (that the bank accepted for the loan, but the insurance company wouldn't for some reason, scumbags). As you can probably tell, I am still rather upset about this and it was YEARS ago. I hate insurance companies to this day.
About 5 years ago, I had a chance to buy a viggen for 5k. I regret not doing it.
way to go!! I was so happy to learn that you went to court and prevailed – and that your education and experience was taken into account by the judge – which in a way makes you a recognized expert in that field!! 👍🏻
sorry sir but going under another car in an accident is definitely not considered safe by any means
Im amazed he got the seventy five hundred and the car back
This is why you get agreed value policies.
As Father Ted once said
They Shaft You Every Time
Insurance you got to have it to drive on the road. Insurance will find every way to do as little as possible.
This video helped me get $5k more for my totaled car!!! They were trying to compare sales in AZ vs CA. I would have just accepted the first offer if I didn’t see this video
When you have a favourite winter convertible
Be more careful and wear sunglasses!!!. My 67 Fastback, like most old cars, is hood level with your line of sight. Very bright even with flat paint. Wear sunglasses.
Not as rare as the 94x I found
Wow, that is some SAAAB dedication.
I had a similar issue with a Neon ACR I bought. It got stolen 2 weeks after I bought it out of my driveway because the radiator had split. The insurance company totalled it because the engine had seized (supposedly), and the thieves ripped out the trunk lock and ignition cylinder. The insurance company did EXACTLY what you said, and I tried to argue because the ACR is the factory racing package they used in the Neon Challenge races and was a low production variant. They wouldn't listen. They also refused to sell me the car back once I had filed the claim. Insurance is such a scam.
those accountants never understand SAABs
because its an engineer's car
its for people who think
not for people who only follow numbers
That story got me smiling 🙂 As a nordic I got soft spot for Volvo's and Saab's.. specially 99 combi coupe that I'm trying to find.
I had to fight the insurance company twice. Once on a Dakota that got rear ended, and once on a 93 F350 that got stolen.
Yes I too love the Saab! I had a 98 900 SE turbo, and I miss it. 2.3 turbo, 5 speed, 2 door, 18 gallon tank, and I could get roughly 500 miles out of a tank…and that was cruising over 70. I put a snowblower in the back once, and one time transported a dishwasher, and both times was able to close the hatch. Man it was quick, agile, and had awesome driving lights, and I sorely miss having rear fog lights. Plus the interior was super comfortable, except that it was beige and tan and more beige, all cloth. But where I live in upstate New York, there just aren’t any that aren’t worn out. Plus it had the sunroof. I agree with you about the snow capabilities, I would put a good set of snows on and pass Subaru’s all day in deep snow.
The Viggen is literally my dream car. Good on you!
I've had to play the "it's not for sale game" with an insurance scam attorney.
I presented it as them just stealing money from me, as the car was not for sale and their inured basically stole my car.
I got what I wanted in property damage and repaired it. Plus court costs.
I disagree with you regarding your sponsor. The ONLY person I’m calling for ANY ticket is…
BRIAN WILSON!!! THE TEXAS LAW HAWK!!!! *EAGLE SCREECH*
Good for him. I had the same issue with a totaled car, all the comps were beat up, mine was pristine. Mine was only $1500 off though so I never went beyond hiring an appraiser. I squeezed them for more on the medical settlement instead.
Imagine dealing with all of this bullshit over 3-4k lolz Jesus christ 🤦♂️
my first car was a saab 9-3 i miss it so much
7500 was all it was for the insurance company and yet they haggled… wow. Serves em right.
Great story. But what a fugly car.
My buddy had a saab and I fell in love. I think that’s how you spell it but idk. I can’t afford a car right now but I will own a Saab.
The car lot always stealing parts
We had a similar situation. My dad got crashed into in his Volvo C30 and it was written off. The insurance valued it cheap as they used normal diesels and 1.6s but his was a rare N/A 2.4l 5cyl and we sent over some examples of the 2.4i and they gave a good price tbf to them
How did you get the value of the car and keep the car?
Reminds me of the time my brother was rear ended by a drunk driver in his 2000 Honda S2000. Insurance tried to shaft him and say it’s only worth (I think) 2 or so thousand. So of course comes the (deservingly for once) male Karen for a long time. In the end he managed to get a proper appropriate value.
so, four years ago, i had an e46 325i station wagon, manual, rwd, sport package which is pretty rare to find. i'm cruising back to college, and i get t-boned by a woman who turned left on a green light (i was opposite of her and going straight, hence me having priority). obviously my car is pretty beat up, police officer writes a report blablabla.
some nice gentleman who was in a working van behind the lady who crashed into me, comes up and says : hey i saw what happened, you are obviously not at fault, heres my number if you need any help.
a few weeks pass, insurance calls me up, says hey you owe us 5300$ for the womans car repair and rental fees she had. i get mad, explain that i wasnt at fault, that she was, proceed to give them the nice gentleman's info who can corroborate my story.
another week goes by, get another call from the insurance company, this time around they say : since you both have different versions, you're going to split the difference with her, and its going to cost you 3700$. I get very very mad, and say look, i talked to the gentleman, and he said he NEVER got a call from you guys, he litteraly proves my version of the accident, get your facts straight and hung up. 4 years later, they have never called me back, i fixed my e46 for a few hundred bucks and it lives on.
crazy how much scamming insurance companies try to get away with.
I recently had to do something similar with my gfs 4runner. She was rear ended by a box truck on the freeway. Her car recently had a bunch of repairs and upgrades done to it. It took about 2 weeks but we ended up getting about $1000 more. I actually used autotempest as one of my sources for finding compairable vehicles in my area, since the insurance people could only find them 1 state away.
BREATH MY GUY!!!
Funny how the car was .. missing a few parts when he finally got it back. Gee, Ma, I guess they sorta .. fell off the car when it wuz bein' towed to the yard. Ayup.
I ran into the same issue with insurance fighting our m-sport BMW. they werent factoring in the m-sport with their reports, and were showing lower spec'd models. It was absolutely infuriating.
I don't understand the mania over Saabs. So unattractive. Yes, very well engineered, very strong, very safe…but kind of ugly.
Insurance companies with BILLIONS in cash reserves will put you through hell over a few thousand bucks. Figure that out.
I went through this with my first SVX, though it didn't go all the way to court. I managed to get them from an offer of $800 all the way to $4500 (I then bought the car back for $25) but it took loads of leg work. Save receipts and document your builds, it can really help your case and save a huge headache!
that’s on you lmao
