1. Cars are expensive. Sport cars are very expensive. A reasonably reliable motorcycle can be bought used for under $3000. For my purposes, I keep a boring daily driver that can carry my tools to work and a 600cc sport naked. I remain untempted by Mustangs and Miatas. No Corvette can threaten my bank account. Bikes are just more fun in the twisties than cars. If you don't have mountains near you, you may not feel the appeal of owning a bike. But, if you do, nothing else will do.

I started on 1100vt shadow with no experience with motorcycles when I talk to people that want to get into riding I tell them to start small cause when I was learning the clutch I tipped it over a few times one time it pinned my leg and the muffler melted my shoe lol but I eventually got the hang of it but you'll be on the road alot faster if you pick a bike that fits your skill level

7. If you are practicing wrenching on a two wheel vehicle that lacks the redundant systems of a car. That's the absolute wrong reason to get a bike. I'll be looking for "rider: donut" on Motostars.

8. Don't buy a project bike omg. Unless you want to spend more time wrenching that riding.

   Your first bike should be a working motorcycle. Project bike second unless you are mechanically minded and have time and money on your hands.

9. I too started riding when I was 4 or 5 years old, at 57, I have loved two wheels for over 50 years. As a young guy, you should never say how many you have in a forum where your wife or girlfriend may hear the number. And if she ever asks "How many bikes do you have?", don't answer, it is a trick, she already knows. I was looking at a 1968 T500 Suzuki on Ebay, getting ready to bid, the wife walks in and sees what I am doing, asked "How many do you have?", before I could finish counting, she answered for me, "16, you can't buy any more until you sell something."

12. Hey potential motorcycle person, as a heads-up the DOT isn't a very good certification for safety sadly. Check out fortnine on YouTube he's extremely entertaining but also informative on everything from safety to what bike to buy.
