After years of working in her parent’s Chinese restaurant with no pay ever since she was a small child, a caller tells me of the difficulties she fears will arise if she goes against her parent’s wishes and pursues her own goals.

Afterwards a caller tells me how he tricked several people by starting a fake bakery, a caller fears his entire identity is centered around working at Microsoft, and a caller starts to see the negative side effects from habitually pulling his hair out.

Plastic plants can be just as nice as real ones. I am a gecko.

  1. Winnie should check out the local community college for design programs. Mine had an amazing 2 year program where i was able to get a job in the industry right after graduating. I think it’s a common misconception that graphic designers can make it without any schooling, as there are a lot of rules and principles to consider if you’re looking to get into professional graphic design.

  2. Winnie can I get you some career counseling? There are ways to provide for your family that don’t involve being unhappy. Just reply here and we can get in touch and go over some ideas and options.

  3. It's amazing. The first girl doesn't see that her parents were trying to instill an unstoppable work ethic to ensure her success, and her only fear is running out of money if she goes off on her own "because we aren't the most well off" insinuating they'd be paying for her. Pay your own way. You're leaving them. They taught you the value of work, do it.

  4. “I want to be a graphic designer”
Every delusional girl wants to make money via art. God forbid they see how unrealistic that is. Art should be done as a hobby while you hustle as your main grind. You then find ways make your art better.

The thing is? Bad artists want to go into art right away and that school is going to change that.

Also this girls acting like shes got it so bad? Does she realize theres still people being forced into slavery?

  5. CBT: pinpointing your exact thoughts, controlling how you emotionally react to those thoughts, then controlling your physical reaction to those emotions. Essentially it will always comprise of these three components — the mental, emotional, and physical. I think referring to it as a mere perspective change is downplaying it a bit.

  6. I don't think my situation is near as dire as Winnie's, but it is similar in that I'm trapped between living my own life and serving my family. This segment really helped me a lot. The channel is new to me but already hitting deep. Thank you

  7. Winnie, you deserve a life of your own to fulfill your own destiny. No one has agency over your life decisions but you and you deserve to take your power back. You can still go to college out of state and go to a community college and take out less student loans than a big state school. And afford yourself enough loan money to help support yourself while working part time and having roommates. It can be done even if you’re starting from scratch. Work on building your credit and getting a degree so you can pay back your student loans, work your way up in life, and make yourself happy first. If there’s any money left over after you’ve been working a decent job for a few years, then you can think about having healthy boundaries with your family and maybe helping here and there. But only after the boundaries are made clear and you’re in the best position to do so, and only if YOU want to.

  8. They shouldnt have come to America thinking they had a freeworker on their hands. They should have accepted the hard existence of being a foreign restaurant owner in America and gave you the opportunity to just be a Asian American child, not a Chinese restaurant worker that happens to live in America.

  9. Winnie's story is really sad, and not to downplay it but it's a dime a dozen in asian culture and toxic af. My ex in college was the same, felt helpless and mind enslaved. It kept her from pursing the things she wanted to do. I'd go to the restaurant in the evening to help close so she could leave earlier. Breaks my heart she is still working there 15 years later

  10. Winnie, just so you know graphic designers can make a lot of money. I think if you can convince your parents of that, it might start to sway them.

  11. I remember I went to a Chinese buffet and tried getting one of the waiters numbers. (She was an adult chill). She wasn't intrested in me probably but she explained how she literally just works at the restaurant 7days a week all the time.

  12. I have a mom who supports the hell out of me and has always encouraged me to do whatever I want in life and that she will do whatever to help me get there and I understand that I am so lucky to have that from her it means the world to me. It hurts to hear when people like Winnie have parents who don't give that support and freedom of opportunity to their children.

  13. im white and grew up around only hispanic and black people, i always wondered why I was bullied and different and wanted so badly to not be white lmao, feeling uncomfortable in your skin like that is horrible. although it seems like a lot of her issues is from her parents and not other people

  14. somebody should tell the fake bakery guy about johnny cupcakes in Boston. It's a fake bakery. They only sell t-shirts, the whole company is just a clothing brand.

  15. I used to not like these back when he stopped putting the intro song, but 2 weeks ago i gave it a watch simply because the title was too clickworthy and these have grown on me geck is cool and he's gotten better at not being biased. hes still very bad at relationship advice obviously . i like how everyone knows geck gives bad relationship advice
