3. I remember hearing the story about Taylor Swift being "fatphobic" and thinking "You're joking, right?" Anyone who thinks that is intentionally ignoring what she's doing/just wants to be angry about something. She is still human, she still has insecurities. Being wealthy, while it makes life easier, doesn't get rid of those insecurities. It might even make them worse, cuz you're constantly in the spotlight, you constantly have a lot of pressure on you to look a certain way

5. Okay, so I get that some people are not going to do anything about their personal health. That being said my family growing up were not small. Mom had disability issues, dad just a mountain of a man and because of medication my sister ballooned. In high school I hit 300lbs. That's not healthy and my peers made sure my self esteem didn't exist. I dropped 150lbs in 6 months because of not eating and constantly biking across town to go to school. Effort was applied and I was able to make an 8 minute mile. Woo hoo yay me. But after a decade I put on some weight and found that 200lbs was definitely solid for me. Then I had a horrible year and lost so much weight I was 130lbs. Not good. Couldn't carry a 40lbs box 3 blocks. The next month it took me eating 3 meals a day 3X a day( yes I mean I was eating 9 meals) before I was strong enough to even start looking for work again. I feel personally empowered to hold an open opinion on this subject. If you don't like yourself, look in the mirror and I mean dead in the eye. Ask yourself what does your life mean? Hit the hardest button in your heart to see yourself. No one else means a damned thing in this moment. It has to be personal. What makes you Burn. What makes you want to feel Alive? Then spend every ounce of energy doing even the tiniest of things. Remember that person in the mirror and be worth it to them to stand up for yourself. Anything less is weakness. I despise weakness and I am certain most people do too.

14. It would be really nice if instead of worrying so much about exactly education loss. It would be more effective if we could appropriately discipline kids and help them learn other ways the hitting each other for problem solving. We can't teach content if we're breaking up multiple fights a day, and the only consequences we have are functionally a slap on the wrist. If we can focus on helping kids exist in the world learning the content will naturally follow.

21. Maybe its just because I grew up at the same time as T.Swift, but I immediately knew what she was connoting with the imagery of the scale that said fat. It means that no matter the number or the actual reality of your health or weight, you still feel unworthy and overweight because you don't meet the unrealistic standards on tv/media. In the 90s and 2000s it was extremely common imagery to show a skinny looking girl staring at a scale or mirror and clearly seeing the words or images of "fat" around her. This was something you'd see in a lot of books, health pamphlets, or videos that were promoting awareness of body dysmorphia. It's interesting how different people can interpret the same depictions or symbols incorrectly from the intended meaning, but I guess if you didn't grow up with those images it looks different to you. Pretty clear to most people though that she was making a statement about her own body struggles. Leave it to people to make everything about them when T. Swift is literally famous for writing vulnerable lyrics that pertain specifically to herself and her life.

I don't necessarily disagree with most of what Phil said, but I think men need to be careful when assuming whatever experiences they've had when they were/are fat is anything like being a fat woman. While some men experience it like we do, a lot don't. It reminds me of when Cenk from TYT acted like he has the right to decide for all of us whether a fat joke is okay or not.

    I think when it comes to fatphobia, white men need to do more listening than debating over the issue… and honestly fat men in general should. My hubby is a fat POC, and he for sure has major insecurities because of it, but he still agrees that it's on another level for women. I do think Taylor didn't mean to be fatphobic, though. However, I didn't particularly like Phil's response to it, not so much his entire stance, but the condescending tone wasn't necessary and I think the other side still has valid points. More than anything, I think he isn't keeping in mind how much a woman's "value" is wrapped up in our appearance and age, which he might have empathy for, but from the way he spoke I don't think he truly understands from our POV. Even if he was somewhat bigger (he honestly didn't look obese whatsoever, it would be like calling Hasan fat, technically true but neither of them really appeared to be in my eyes), he still gets valued much more for his other accomplishments.

    I also almost wasn't going to touch on this, because it's a touchy subject, but I actually do think people have a point when they compare fatphobia to racism. This is primarily true with the risk it can cause to our lives, but obviously not in the same ways, I mostly think about the horrible care that fat people receive from doctors. There is research showing that the mortality of fat people is affected by fatphobia, since a lot of times we are not taken seriously for a wide variety of issues. It's to the point that every fat person needs to push back at their doctor when an issue isn't being taken seriously and ask them, "What advice or measures would you take if I was skinny? What would you do different? " Anecdotally, even as an attractive fat person, I have often received poor care because doctors can use weight as an excuse for nearly anything. I've gone into an ENT for a throat issue completely unrelated to my weight and this plus size doctor lectured me about my weight. Above all this, on a superficial level, I actually do sometimes wonder if the internet hates fat people more than POC, because even leftists can be fatphobic. On a non-superficial level, it definitely affects job prospects and I guarantee there are people that would easily choose an attractive POC over a white fat person.

    This doesn't mean I think fatphobia is worse than racism, but I don't think the comparison of both is that outlandish as far as how oppressing it can feel. I'm not sure if someone like Phil can understand, because even if he considered himself obese and was very heavy, I never saw him that way much like I don't see Hasan as fat.

37. Let me tell you, the districts are not sharing that money with their schools. Especially not paying their employees. A lot of people have left education and more are leaving because they can get paid more for doing less stressful jobs where they're actually valued.
