29. So three critiques of this white culture vulture:

    1) At some point he says something like “these new young gang bangers arent like past street gangs fighting over drugs and money, they just do it for territory and mindless violence” which sounds a lot like the racist 1990s “superpredator” arguement. there is always a reason and that reason is ALWAYS lack of resources, white supremacy, and systemic oppression by the nypd.

    2) at another point he says something like “the cops retaliated against them due to their continual killing of innocent bystanders. NO. the cops retaliated because the cops are racist and killing black people is their job. the casualties of gang violence, whether gang members themselves or innocents, are the excuse for the cops to perpetuate street violence, not the reason.

    3) he talks about music being a viable way to for individuals to get out of the hood. BULLSHIT. maybe a few individuals can escape, but that dream is a trap designed to keep 99.99% of people stuck in the hood. the only way to end the violence is to collectively fight poverty by fully funding NYCHA, criminal justice reform, etc.
