So many artists in “The 27 Club” died young: Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley, Amy Winehouse, Lil Peep, Juice WRLD, Chester Bennington, and more. There’s also the epidemic of rap violence (Pop Smoke, King Von, etc). Are the fans to blame for “The 27 Club”?

30 thoughts on “THE 27 CLUB: How we’re killing our favorite musicians

  1. Me personally I never heard of Lil Peep before and as for Amy Winehouse, I never got into her music really because I only know about her addicted to crack and she died. Also how come you never mention Tupac,Notorious BIG,The East and West Coast rivalry of the 1990's?

  2. Well done Finn, a much needed discussion. Ozzy talked about his addiction saying "if you're working in an office and came in drunk wearing a dress, they'd send you home or get help. When I did it they said, 'well, it's gonna be a great show tonight.'"

  3. The main problem of Fans of music artist specially "Rock Star" after loving the Music created by the Artist, the love on the music slowly fades and they become more focused on the Artist life style. The Fans wanted to be cool just like the lifestyle of the artist they are unconciously supporting the Bad lifestyle of the Artist instead the music created of the Artist. To be real 80% fans of a particular artist did'nt became a fans not because of the music, but because it sound and looks cool to the mainstream media, we can see fans like these specially on the Hip Hop genre on this new generation. The music trend today is so corrupt, nonsense, sexual etc etc. Music affects specially the younger generation and since Social Media is so massive there is no control or filter.

  4. The perfect combination for self-destruction: 1. A propensity for depression 2. Susceptibility to substance abuse 3. Easy access to drugs and alcohol 4. Lack of encouraging/helpful voices to keep them centered and/or insolation 5. Disillusion with life and purpose 6. Being emotionally driven 7. Lack of self discipline in light of the previously mentioned issues

  5. It's a bit ironic and a bit hypocritical this especially with the title because majority is the people that you talking about had drug problems and that's deeper than fans and what you're trying to say and it's interesting that gambling is another Addiction and you're advertising it so I guess yeah you are responsible when it in some weird way because you're how are you making it more accessible for people with gambling addiction so yeah I just want to leave that there are you just full of it makes me sick

  6. Everything in this video is why I as a Slipknot fan don’t mind that the band hasn’t made another album that sounds like Iowa. Considering what they had to do to themselves to make Iowa sound like that in the first place, I accepted a long time ago that we were only going to get one album that brutal out of them.

  7. I love the content here but I also like trap lore Ross and I think he gets a bad name because people slap a label on it but he really is out here telling stories about gang violence gang culture and if you listen to any of his videos hes always sad for the tragic loss of people hes always talking about there's a better way we can do this so there's some positivity out there that people just overlook and don't want to listen too. I'm from Jacksonville Florida there's a story he did on the whole city it's really like that there and hes just bringing it to light to let you know that it's a tragedy. And I think that's a story worth listening too.

  8. Addiction is in place of heatly coping skills. We learn these skill when we are young, usually by those who are guardians over us. Our society teaches us to be more self-centered than not. By this i mean, we tend to judge others based on our own very unique experiences. Mental health isnt your fault but it is your responsibility. Fans watch it happen, but there's literally nothing fans can do. You cant change anyone.

  9. I'll never forget Kurt's passing. It was my 13th birthday and I was having a party that night to celebrate it. My Dad told me that morning and showed me the news paper clipping. I'll literally never forget the moment in the house I grew up in by the front door. It's one of those moments learning your hero is gone. It crushed all of us and turned into a sort of memorial celebration of Nirvana and Kurt at the party. You have to understand how big they were in 1994. I couldn't understand suicide and mental health back then because I was too young but now I'm 41 and get it, as I am a sufferer myself now of depression. It really hurts thinking about how he literally had songs like "I Hate Myself and Want to Die" but we all just cheered and laughed it off. RIP to all these young gifted individuals. PRMBA always doing great work.

  10. I think that most of these people could have really used someone close to them. Someone that was intimately close to keep them grounded. I don't know how I would have made it this far without people holding me down. No man is an island. When you get famous, it's too easy to become isolated. Ironically.

  11. thank you for this responsible video. it's making me rethink my relationship to music, as someone who is hella depressed and seek comfort in this kind of music and in the past definitely didn't realize why i liked bands and musicians who are also mentally ill and/or suffering from addiction….. i definitely listen to a LOT of depressing music (metal etc.) and been doing so since i was 13 (im 34 now).

i also listen to a lot of reggae and funk and there's plenty of depressing shit there too. the upside is the music is (often) uplifting and lyrics try to be positive.
i'm trying hard to stay in that mindset of not giving up on life and have a daily playlist of those kinds of songs. mostly Rebelution, Spearhead and Wookiefoot. it's oddly cathartic to hear someone sing "all life is suffering" to an amazing funk beat. also some purely positive songs like "it's a good day" by Royal Crown Revue.
