For one glorious summer, an experimental, sci-fi band rocked Disneyland’s space stage. With a bass-playing Wookie and an acrobatic frog, the band’s existence is nearly unbelievable, and the story behind its creation is just as incredible. This is Defunctland’s first feature film, Live From the Space Stage: A HALYX Story. Please enjoy.

Watching that percussionist running around while playing different instruments feels like slipknot before slipknot
This could easily be on History channel.. instead we have Aliens and Pawn shops.
the Jail Bait writer is a bit pretentious.
i think it would be really cool to see a regeneration of halyx. it's awful that lora never got to see the resurgence of it, but i would love to see halyx return for a summer or something in honor of her
Imagine if Disney did this concept but they had the music be more like the bands Gong or Hawkwind. That would be cool
This is the first time I listen to them but man they had so much potential, they genuenly sound amazing, they were so ahead of their time, once again defunct land with another banger documentary, you guys are so underrated honestly, you deserve so much more for the amazing work you do
No sex in their act but has a song about jailbait.
Logic?
man the nostalgia when they started talking about the disney disco record, I had when I was a kid and I loved it so much.
This is my favorite documentary of all time. I love listening to it in the background. I love introducing it to other people. I love talking about it. I spent a solid month obsessed with the story of Halyx. I think I spent a whole 50 minute counseling session infodumping. The structure, the format, the research, the depth. I have a Halyx t-shirt now and it's one of my favorites to wear. I'm so touched by your documentary every single time. You capture the whole of what you do and thank you so much for it!
Is this candid to star wars universe? Whose writing this movie?
wish i was alive back then
What do you think the tally is at Disney? Dreams come true vs. Dreams destroyed? 1 in 25?
Anyone waiting for the part where Disney records said screw it and just make a record with the band they spent copious amounts of money on? Just me?
This is the best documentary ive watched in a long time <3
Here at 1,376,133 views. (before that too… maybe)
I’m so upset that their music wasn’t recorded, they were so before their time
You question yourself recently, between videos or documentaries. This single example proves everything for your best. The framing, the progression from disney staff to band members, the hit of Loras remembrance smashing the question that lingered the whole documentary… Your work has pulled tears from my eyes, and i want to see so many more pieces from you just like this.
Just came here from your latest video on the Disney Channel Theme and I gotta say, your filmmaking just never ceases to amaze me. To me, this channel has the most impressive videos on Youtube. I've never even been to Disneyland nor have I ever been particularly fond of Disney, but I've still binge watched every one of your videos because they're just that good! Keep it up, and hope you go far in your career.
Amazing stuff. What's crazy to me is that someone's small moment in time, say a family vacation… band playing in the background. For you it's nothing, just a park band… for that band it might be the biggest moment of their lives. All these small/huge moments going on all around us all the time.
41:50: Left Hand's putting together a band to attract more people to Disneyland, Right Hand's mad that they're drawing attention to themselves. Corporate hydras are wild.
45:46 I love how they were like "we were not expecting the wookiee to have sex apeal" and it's like… this was a decade before Beauty and the Beast came out, so they wouldn't know, but escentially that's just Beast with a Bass Guitar. Of COURSE girls would love it.

Todd in the Shadows fan: YOU again!
"That's why we got a furry guy" caught me so off guard while writing and listening to this as background audio.
Man this is really cool. Incredible work here by whoever runs this channel. It’s so nice that everyone involved has such nice memories of that one summer back in the early 80’s. Shame that Lora is no longer with us, as I could see this drawing some serious nostalgia crowds nowadays. I mean hell Brit Floyd is still selling out arenas why not Halyx? Sad that disney didn’t see the potential here.
This was one of the coolest things I have ever seen.
Damn! I could picture Halyx re-appearing and absolutely smashing it with Lzzy Hale as lead vocalist
58:50 the MOHT RELLIM is one of the most wholesome things I’ve ever heard.
damn…. these videos are so well made
Fantastic story telling! I loved every minute of this….and am now obsessed with this band.
Such a good documentary as always. Thank you for what you do!
Hi guys ….sorry can someone fill me in what year summer season this was Thanks
Someway, somehow, Roger Freeland and Phil Lesh are related. It's just obvious.
This was the best doco I’ve seen in years. I’m staggered by HALYX 🤩🤩 awesome 😎
