So basically, Disney got greedy and prioritized captain park guests over others just like the inventor of the system expressly said that he didn’t want and then they actually hurt the system more than helped it.
Makes sense
around the 1:15:00 mark you get the biggest plot twist in history, this works EXACTLY like a movie lol
Let's be honest, Disney world hasn't been worthwhile to visit since the early 2000s
maybe they just need a flying pig to come and entertain people while they wait
Me who has never been to Disney : “interesting”
People planning their Disney visit and Fast Passes 60 days in advance is the most White People thing I've ever seen
I’ve seen this video 3 times now… I don’t know why 😂
This sounds like the base argument for a FLAT TAX for the US. 12.5%
if only waiting in queues was as interesting as watching this documentary
lost my shit when shapeland came on screen LMAO
I remember I went to a theme park in Germany with my family, and it had a fastpass system as well. At one point we started calling the fast pass guests "speedy passers" and complained about them within my family. Then some German guests overheard us and started using that term too. At the end of the idea we heard people all over the park yelling at the speedy passers for paying to have an advantage over the average guest. We started a class riot in a theme park and I'm so proud of it.
I always just tell the people at the front I have IBS because they dont ask any more questions and let you on everything
Amazing and in-depth. Not a big data nerd, but this was eye opening!
I watched this while going to Disney world last week lol
My family had a fast pass at universal studies and the queues were soo fast. It was awesome
Defunctland lore
Nice!
“Lines are inevitable”, nonsense! The kardashians and other “VIPs” avoid them all together. Only us peasants are the ones that must succumb and endure through the financial schemes and whims of Disney.
Great video, I haven't been to a resort for over 10 years but waiting in a queu is one of the thing I hate the most in life so it was interesting to learn how engeneer tried to solve the issue.
Having graph use no color but only shades of grey was a baffling choice (especially at 1:10:10 where it's barelly readable), but that's my only complain. Will definetly check out the rest of your channel soon.
"Face to face with guest's, allowing them to interact with strangers…back when people where into that sorta thing" lmfao 🤣 that was comedy gold I feel may have been under appreciated; genius, quick- witted and low key, where the best comedy is born.

10 hours, six rides. I will never go to Disney because I can never justify that cost
You’ve managed to PROVE what people have been screaming for years about the parks. They’re prioritizing big spending vacationers and screwing over locals which is risky business that COVID and this current 2008esque economy helped highlight
The number of consistent big spenders(people who can afford multiple bells and whistles trips a year)isn’t high enough to keep profits
The number of once in a lifetime/every few years families is largely dependent on the economy and how well you manage to make the experience stress free and WORTH the money
But LOCALS who come in fairly regularly are YOUR BREAD AND BUTTER and if you keep telling them they aren’t who you want they WILL STOP COMING
Disney’s killing itself in the name of profits and you perfectly proved that here. Brilliant
1:41:19 A hell of a lot more, now.
actually goated video wtf
Is the Jupiter Notebook you used for the simulation available anywhere? That looks absolutely fascinating.
I genuinely love the vibe of Disney. I would go yearly, I can afford to do so. I don't specifically because it isn't actually fun to be there anymore. When my family wants to go we go, and I ride Pirates twice (my absolute favorite ride) followed by one of the three mountains – never all three because two out of the three have 60+ minute indefinite wait times that sometimes clog up to an upward of THREE hours due to broken Lightning Genie Fast Pass Plus Unscripted Edition Prank Videos (gone wrong). It, without fail, for half a decade if not more ends up like this. I miss when I was a kid decades ago and Disney was this lofty but magical place. Now, it's a shit heap of "Jesus christ how fucking long is this parade why are people so clogged up goddamnit this line really isn't moving wtf"
The youtube algoritm brought me here and I am very happy about it.
As an engineer, I always enjoy planning out a Disney trip to optimize how to best utilize the limited time. However, I also like being spontaneous on a vacation. I’ve been thinking a lot about the best way the system could be worked out. With priorities being limited downsides to not pre-planning trip, overall decreased wait time, (and for the Disney Execs) increased in park spending.
The vision I have consists to three main parts: Optional trip pre-planning system (with no priorities given), extensive AI (using Fastpass+ data), and “Magic” lanes.
Pre-planning – guests that want to pre-plan should be able to. They should be able to navigate around a park map calling out different things they want to do and see. A Genie like system can help arrange these priorities in an order which makes sense. And suggest additional stops like gift shops and food.
Extensive AI – In this video, they were able to make a reasonable simulation of Animal Kingdom using the limited public data that is available. Disney has been able to collect a ton of data through the magic bands and fastpass+ system, that they should be able to create a high quality AI which groups guests into bins and can make predictions about what guests want. How long they will wait in lines. Who wants to try all the snacks, etc.
Magic Lanes – These are the same lanes as the fastpass lanes, fastpass plus lanes, and now lightening lanes. Except you can’t reserve these at all. Instead the system uses your plan (if you have one) plus your AI profile to predict what you want and what you can handle. For example, if a family which has some younger children say they want to do the Mine Train ride in their plan, the Mine train wait time is higher than expected and the family wouldn’t be able to ride it and meet their lunch reservation and on this particular day the Pooh ride has lower than typical wait times, perhaps the system sends them a notification “Magic Alert: Wait in two lines at once, Ride Pooh through the standby line and get a magical pass for the Mine train. You’ll finish in time to get to your lunch reservation at Be My Guest”
I think this solves a ton of problems, you don’t have the prebooking problem that fastpass plus had, you don’t have the park flow problem that fastpass had. You don’t have to pre-plan your trip, but doing so would certainly improve the magic that you get. It can also be massively dynamic. I’d say there should be significantly fewer magic passes given compared to fastpass plus. It should feel special, but still be high enough volume that the staffing and real estate would be worth it still. It can be actively managed such that rides with lower attendance can be promoted. If an area is getting crowded, perhaps give the people with the top 10% chance of riding a ride on the other side of the park a magic pass for that ride.
And I think it feels quite Disney too. Rather than fast passes feeling like a transaction you do to improve your experience, you experience magic to make your vacation even better.
Omg i didnt realize it before but im pretty sure I experienced the 100:1 phase on splash mountain once. I complained to guest services cause thw standby line was 3 hours and not posted. After an hour I wanted out of line but couldn't get out the line was so packed.
rewatching this video, i never realized this guy at 17:16 spoke the most broken spanish ever 😂
Truly a masterpiece video essay, with one of the most solid conclusions I've ever seen.
Isn't it so great how modern disney leadership is taking the amazing strategies of fast pass in the back and shooting it!? Meaning that genie+ is a money grab and old fastpass was for guest experience. I hate modern disney
1:20:51 the shade killed me
Watching this high would blow your mind
You’re like the Mark Robert of theme parks
