The former bandmates James Hetfield and Dave Mustaine almost dropped a side project until negotiations were derailed by a royalty dispute. Megadeth was founded after Dave Mustaine was fired by Metallica.

  1. As a follow up to my J-metal comment. Say what you want about heavy metal being dominated by men, but American metal artists could learn a lot from the bands of the far east. This is one of the top bands in Japan and they are all about the unit as a whole, best friends, do anything for each other. The song was written (as a surprise), to the drummer who they view as their leader. She just returned from maternity leave, so the song title is LIFE for her new-born, they all cried, obviously, as well as faced her the entire song (what respect). Have never seen an American big band interact like this, we have much to learn in how we treat another. Think Mustaine would ever do something like that, right. If this song doesn't get you in the feels, well, don't know what to tell you. This is the utmost sugn of respect / class, go check it out. Nemophila – Life official music video from 2yrs ago, nearly 1M view. And they go heavy AF if you're wondering…check out Dissension, Revive, Hozuki, etc. 🤘

  2. As much as I think it would be great, I think it's a little too late and I don't see the first side project of James Hetfield being a reunion with Mustaine… at this point it has more chances to be a country/folk album, lol.

  3. Dave staying in Metallica would have held them both back. Dave would have continued making Metallica's existence a constant stream of battles and ruined opportunities. He also had way more potential than being 'just' lead guitarist, he was made to be a frontman. Getting both bands was definitely the best result for them, and the fans.

  4. Yeah like James really wants to work with a guy who throws shots at him and other Metallica members in every other interview and makes claims like “I was the alpha male in Metallica.” He even suggested that James may be drinking again or something. I hope James never works with him.

  5. Meh. Nobody wants to listen to metal without a drummer. Lars plays compositions like Adler. You can tell its them not stock tempos and beats ugh. Nobody talented wants to be in a band with Mustaine types.

  6. I feel like Dave has his door always open, James just wants to have his words and that’s it. James can’t move on and be cool cause that’s the way he is..

  7. I like how the story has evolved to "suddenly dropped from the band" from the actuall events, which was Mustaine sold some band equipment to feed his drug habbit and they fired him when they found out. If Mustaine had never screwed the band over, we might not be having this conversation. But then we might not have both bands either.

  8. its just 2 dudes that are not exactly alike but just enough to non stop butt heads we all have come across someone like this we respect because they are like us but you just cant get along you know they both respect each other and how daves health thing you can tell so much he has changed

  9. James & Lars have become two of the biggest c**ts in metal.
I'll always be a fan of the first three albums but Justice was the turning point of their personalities.

  10. So glad it did not happen. Dave never needs to waste his time with the hypocrites of SElloutica/metalijoke. If you are going to actually listen to them do not go past Justice. Anything after is junk.

  11. He mentioned that it was the two songs – Metal Militia & Phantom Lord. Both of those songs were credited with Dave, Lars & James. So now 30 years after the fact he wants to change it? He also said that he wrote every note and wrote every word. Sounds like Dave is just being greedy. Am I missing something?

  12. As the biggest Megadeth fan on the planet, and someone who loves Metallica too, I really do not give two shits if Dave and James collab or not. IMO it’s unnecessary. Megadeth should keep making ground breaking, chart topping, Grammy winning albums every few years, and Metallica can keep putting out the same thing once a decade. I’m fine with that.

  13. I don't know. This doesn't really sound like it came close to anything. It's funny how much drama there is over stuff like this (mostly from Dave), and then you see so many European metal bands who collaborate and do side projects all the time.

  14. I brought this up in another thread, surprised no one else has…

Hetfield doesn't want beef/grief with Lars. If he goes back and tries to fix the publishing then it affects the partnership and put Hetfield in a position where he sides with Dave against Lars.

All they would really have to do is ask Lars what parts he wrote? If he helped arrange it, then how? The fact that Hetfield didn't even want to pursue it tells you something…

I doubt they would try to screw Mustaine again, but they might…and past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior…
